Willie Harris is my Hero

Braves Update:
The Mets once again got the first run on the board, but the Braves were not willing to go down without a fight. The Braves posted their first run in the fourth and broke it wide open in the fifth thanks to a three run homer by Met killer Chipper Jones followed by a solo shot from Mark Teixeira, who has hit four homeruns and drove in nine runs in his first eight games with the Braves. The Mets fought back in the ninth after Tyler Yates allowed a three run homer to David Wright which put the score at 7-6, but an incredible catch by Willie Harris took away the tying run by Carlos Delgado and allowed the Braves to take another series from the Mets. The Braves head down the New Jersey Turnpike to Philadelphia for a weekend series against the Phillies. Catch the action live on TBS at 7:35 PM/est.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 3.5
Games above .500: 7
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres

Braves Notes: Chipper Jones refused to talk to the New York media following Thursday's game. Jones was upset with the way his quote about A-Rod was misconstrued in the papers...Bob Wickman is battling soreness in his right forearm and will travel to Atlanta to be evaluated by doctors.

NASCAR Update:
We're back on the road course again as the Cup and Busch Series head to Watkins Glen this weekend. The Glen is one of the trickier tracks the boys face this year because of the various elevation changes drivers encounter. Look for past winner Tony Stewart to be a threat along with Sonoma winner Juan Pablo Montoya. Coverage begins at 1 PM/est on ESPN.

In other news, Sam Hornish, Jr. says he's 50-50 on whether he'll be moving over to NASCAR full time. Hornish is a three-time IRL champion and last year's Indy 500 winner.

Popo in my crib News:
Mitch Cozad was convicted of second-degree assualt on Wednesday after he plunged a five inch knife into his competition, Rafael Medonza's kicking leg. Cozad was acquitted of attempted first-degree murder. The incident took on a Nancy Kerrigan/Tony Harding storyline because Medoza was the starting punter and Cozad was the back up at Northern Colorado. All that's missing is the delightful Jeff Gillooly character. Mabye Mitchy can make a friend at the pen who would fit this role. Watch out Mitch, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Here's a riddle, what do Lindsay Lohan and Scott Spiezio have in common? They are both in a rehab facility for substance abuse. Officially, the team put Spiezio on the restricted list for "possible problems related to substances he was taking unbeknown to the team's medical staff." Hopefully, for his sake and his family's he can make a full recovery...In better Cardinals news, Rick Ankiel made it back to the big leagues after converting from pitcher to right fielder. And what did he do in his first game back since 2004? He hit a homerun in the Cards 5-0 win over the San Diego Padres...Not only did the Dodgers score a run for the first time in four games, but they also won, something they hadn't done in a week, thanks to Rafael Furcal's game winning homer...Following his plunking of Alex Rios during Tuesday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Yankees starter Roger Clemens has received a five game suspension. Like the Yankees don't pay him enough to do nothing. Joe Torre recieved a one game suspension for his role in the aftermath...Finally, so during the off season I was begging John Schuerholz to reunite Tommy Glavine and John Smoltz partly because I hate not liking Tommy and partly because it was one of my two favorite team combinations from my childhood. Well, Johnny couldn't get that done for me, but the Maimi Heat have eased my pain a little by reuniting Penny Hardaway and Shaquille O'Neal. It may not be the same as two effective, future hall of fame pitchers, but it sure does put a smile on my face. Although, I'm still sticking with the Nets.

It's been fun blogging with you,
