According to foxsports.com, the Padres will disignate 44 year old pitcher David Wells for assignment and put him on waivers giving the Pads three days to trade him. Wells is owed just under $1 million. The move opened up a spot for starter Chris Young who will be coming off the 15 day DL.
In other departure news, Jeremy Mayfield will be leaving Bill Davis Racing after the 2007 season. Mayfield is currently 46th in the points after only qualifying for 8 out of 21 races this season.
