Welcome to Atlanta

Braves Update:
After a 12-4 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday, the Braves bats continued their hot streak winning 12-3 on Wednesday. Mark Teixeira, who arrived during Tuesday's game, made his official debut at first, getting a RBI in his first at bat, a walk, and then proceeded to hit a three run homerun in the sixth inning. Buddy Carlyle had another solid outting pitching five innings and allowing only two runs before leaving the game early. The Braves complete their series with the 'stros on Thursday at 7:35 PM/est on TBS.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 3.5
Games above .500: 6
NL Wild Card Leader: Los Angeles Dodgers

Braves Notes: The Braves picked up Royce Ring from the San Diego Padres for Wil Ledezma and minor leaguer Will Startup...Buddy Carlyle left the game on Wednesday before the top of the sixth inning with a hyper-extended right elbow. He is listed as day-to-day...On Wednesday, the Braves cut father time, Julio Franco and sent Jose Ascanio to AA Mississippi to make room for acquisitons Octavio Dotel and Ron Mahay. On Tuesday, the Braves sent reliever Chad Paronto to AAA Richmond to make room for Mark Teixeira.

NASCAR Update:
Tony Stewart was fined $25,000 and docked 25 points for his post-race expletive filled interview after winning the Brickyard 400 on Sunday. (Shouldn't ESPN be fined for not bleeping it out?) He follows in the footsteps of Dale Earnhardt, Jr. who was fined and docked for cursing after he won at Talladega in October 2004.

Greg Biffle was fined $5,000 and put on probation until December 31, 2007 for skipping a post-race interview after finishing second in the Kroger 200 Busch Race on Saturday. Biffle said he did talk to reporters on pit road but skipped going to the press box because of the "huge crowds."

Chip Ganassi Racing officials announced they will shut down Juan Pablo Montoya's Busch team after Watkins Glen next week.

News & Notes: The Minnesota Twins have cancelled their game against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday and their weekend series against the Cleveland Indians is up in the air after the I-35W bridge collapsed on Wednesday. The Twins did play Wednesday's game after officials asked the team to go through with the game to prevent extra cars from entering the scene. The Twins lost 5-3 to the Royals in 10 innings. The bridge is located approximately 8 blocks from the Metrodome...Buddy Bell, current manager for the Kansas City Royals, announced he will step down at the end of the season...The Chicago Cubs moved into first place in the NL Central off of a walk-off wild pitch by Philadelphia Phillies newly returned closer Brett Meyers. Welcome back Brett...The New York Giants said they will not offer any extra money to entice Michael Straham back to the team. Straham is still a no-show and is being fined $14,000 for each day missed...And finally, in not thinking news, Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young threw a punch with his throwing hand at teammate Donnie Nickey on Wednesday. Luckily for Vince it only "glazed off his helmet."

Random Quote: "It was extremely tough, extremely hard. I know it was on guys' minds, and obviously hearts, throughout the course of the game. But it's something we had to fight through so they could get emergency vehicles to the scene, and 20,000 people weren't out there making things more congested. Now our sole attention can be projected toward the victims and the families and everything that has happened." - Twins outfilder Michael Cuddyer (source)
