Spare Change

Baseball: The Yankees took the rubber game from the Braves, 11-7 in what may be the longest nine innning game ever played...Atlanta reliever Jeff Bennett fought the door and the door won, placing Jeff on the DL. One of your finer moments I am sure Jeff..Speaking of marathons, Scott Podsednik ended a 13 inning stunner, delievering a two out single to help the White Sox escape the Dodgers, 6-5...Also going into extras were the Rangers and D'backs with the Rangers coming out on top, 9-8...Omar Vizquel surpassed Luis Aparicio for most hits by a native of Venezuela in the Rangers victory...The Mets edged the Cardinals, 3-2...The Rays banged up the Phillies, 10-4...Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins has been benched for the next two games...Magglio Ordonez hit his first homerun in 40 games as the Tigers completed a sweep of the Cubs, 6-5. It was totally the hair cut!...Cubs catcher Geovany Soto was very relaxed during the World Baseball Classic. But yet smart enough to know that if he got caught smoking pot during the WBC and not spring training he wouldn't get punished by MLB...The Nationals got to John Smoltz early, scoring four runs in the first inning, but then the future Hall of Famer settled in, retiring eight batters in a row including striking out the final three. It was too little too late, however, as the Red Sox fell, 9-3...Nats president Stan Kasten is a "village idiot." What? He said so himself!





Basketball: Blake Griffin was selected number one overall by the LA Clippers in Thursday's NBA draft. What a shocker...Click here for the complete draft list...Prior to the draft, there was a flurry of trades including one that sent the Nets Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson to the Magic for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston and Tony Battie...Which maybe a good thing since Hedo Trukoglu is definitely opting out...Michael Jordan wants to buy the Charlotte Bobcats.

Football: Roger Goodell will get around to Michael Vick's future in the NFL at some point...The Lions signed center Dominic Raiola to a four year extension worth $20 million..."Good bye Dallas. I will miss some of you. Others, not so much." - T.O...Seahawks fullback Owen Schmitt is sorry for being completely wasted while driving his car...The Steelers owner Dan Rooney has been named U.S. ambassador to Ireland.

Hockey: Sergei Fedorov signed a two year contract to play with Russian club Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL...The NBA had their night, now it's time for the NHL draft.

Nascar: Jeremy Mayfield continues to deny that he took drugs.

Best of the Rest: Venus Williams rolls onto the fourth round at Wimbledon...Also continuing at the All England Club are Leyton Hewitt and Andy Roddick...Late night comic Jimmy Fallon beat Tiger Woods in golf. Of course it also involved a Nintendo Wii. But don't worry, Tiger got his own revenge.
