Unemployment Check in the Mail

Baseball: The Padres have traded Khalil Greene to St. Louis for two prospects...The Cardinals also signed former Rays reliever Trever Miller...Dustin Pedroia has been rewarded for his MVP season with a six year, $40.5 million contract...The Giants and Bobby Howry agreed to a one year, $2.75 million deal...Russell Branyan signed with the Mariners for one year, $1.4 million...Rays closer Troy Percival underwent back surgery.

Basketball: Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell will have some time on his hands after he was given the pink slip. He will be replaced by assistant coach Jay Triano...Double heartbreak for the 76ers who lost to the Lakers, 114-102 but not before losing Elton Brand to a hamstring strain...Rajon Rondo collected his first ever triple double as the Celtics out paced Indiana, 114-96...Cuttino Mobley maybe forced into retirement depending on his latest heart test...Even with all of its craziness, the Knicks were named the most valuable franchise in the NBA by Forbes.

College Basketball: UNC dominated Michigan State, 98-63...Well wishes go out to Kentucky F Ramon Harris who was taken to the hospital after colliding with his teammate Michael Porter during the first half of the Wildcats 103-61 rout of Lamar.

College Football: After 10 seasons with Auburn, head coach Tommy Tuberville is out...The battle of the undefeated will not take place between Boise State and Ball State.

Football: This Plaxico thing gets more annoying by the second and this is coming from a Giants fan. Latest update, Antonio Pierce called the Giants's trainer immediately after Plaxico shot himself. And now Pierce, who will play on Sunday, has to talk to the popo...Vikings' Williams duo could play on Sunday after a judge blocked the NFL's suspenion. The player's union is also working on a suit to keep the other four players involved in this mess from missing anytime...The first 3-D screening of a NFL game will take place on Thursday in theaters in LA, NY and Boston. Unfortunately, they'll have to sit through the Raiders/Chargers game.

Hockey: Good thing Petr Prucha didn't go down to Hartford, because he scored the game tying goal in the Rangers, 3-2 (SO) victory over the Penguins...The Oilers beat the clearly distracted Stars, 5-2...The Blackhawks rallied with their late goals to beat the Ducks, 4-2...With their 4-0 blanking of the Blues, the Wild move into first in the northwest division...The Avs' Joe Sakic will miss six weeks with a herniated disc...Hurricanes have fired Peter Laviolette and will replace him with Paul Maurice. You know the guy Peter replaced five years ago. This is like a long winded game of musical chairs...Sean Avery is sorry.

Best of the Rest: Aflac would prefer Carl Edwards to stop fighting his other competitors off the track...A track in NJ will not be built at the Meadowlands anytime soon. No instead of breaking into the largest market in America, Nascar would prefer to add a second date at Kansas. Because that makes sense!
