NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman took a tour around the yet to be opened “New” Yankee Stadium this week. The old Stadium across the street was a serious contender for the 2009 Winter Classic, but logistical issues made it impossible. Nevertheless, the NHL and the City of New York has not given up hope of hosting a Classic in the Big Apple and what better place than at the new home of the New York Yankees?
Mr. Bettman’s tour is in no way a confirmation for 2010. Instead the hated Commissioner told a radio host:
“This was extremely preliminary. To suggest we're even at the embryonic stage would be an exaggeration."Ah, I still hold out hope of watching the Rangers from my usual perch in the outfield bleachers at the Stadium, freezing my butt off and going through hot chocolate like it makes a difference in my body temperature.
