Be still my cold dead heart, Sean Avery maybe making a return to the Rangers. Rumor has it the Blueshirts may pick up the controversial winger through a complicated procedure that would require the Stars to put Avery on waivers. Avery would then have to clear waivers and would be reassigned to the Rangers AHL affiliate the Hartford Wolfpack where he would recondition himself while the Rangers make cap space. The Stars would then have to put him on re-entry waivers at New York’s request. Of course this would all be provided that another team lower in the standings than the Rangers does not grab Avery at any step along the way, although that is considered a remote possibility.
Avery was traded to the Rangers from the Kings in 2007 and remained with the team through the 2008 season. In July, he signed with the Stars for $15.5 million. Upon the completion of the deal, the Rangers would only be responsible for $1,937,500 in salary and cap changes plus whatever the prorated salary would be for the rest of the 2008-09 season.
I’m all for it. I love the team, but they have become a bit boring for my taste.
