The Standing Still Edition

Baseball: The Orioles signed Ty Wigginton to a two year, $6 million contract...The Tigers gave Justin Verlander a one year, $3.675 million contract...The Rockies signed Garrett Atkins to a $7 million deal...And the Brewers gave Ricky Weeks a one year, $2.45 million contract...A deal between Bobby Abreu and the White Sox has stalled. I thought Chicago didn't want any high priced free agents...Good news for the Yanks, Chien Ming Wang threw off the mound on Tuesday. Wang is recovering from a foot injury that shortened his 2008 season..Former agent Jeff Moorad has reached a deal to buy the San Diego Padres...Bob Costas is heading to the MLB Network...Kevin Coster maybe starting a minor league team.

Basketball: Ray Allen's three pointer kept the Celtics win streak alive with a 100-99 win over the 76ers...The Cavs stayed undefeated at home thanks to a 101-83 victory over the Raptors. LeBron James' 33 points helped him eclipse the 12,000 point mark making him the younger to ever do so...Jameer Nelson has a torn labrum in his right shoulder but is optimistic he will play again this season...H-O-R-S-E competition will become a part of the All-Star weekend. Finally something I can compete in!

College Basketball: UNC's Marcus Ginyard will miss the rest of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his left foot...On the bright side, the Tar Heels downed the Terps, 108-91...Ohio State was able to take advantage of the absence of Purdue's third leading scorer Robbie Hummel in their 80-72 OT win. The loss broke Purdue's six game win streak...Condeleezza Rice has turned down an offer to become the commissioner of the Pac-10.

Football: Thousands of fans came out to cheer on their Super Bowl winning Pittsburgh Steelers on Tuesday...Uh-oh looks like early reports of this weekend's Super Bowl being the second to last year's in total viewers was wrong, last year's was second to this year's...With the Pro Bowl this weekend, it was the perfect time for players to express their desires to keep the all-star game in Hawaii. Too bad it's moving next season.



Hockey: The Rangers honored Adam Graves prior to the game, but the rest of the night did not go quite as planned after they fell to the Trashers 2-1 in a shoot-out...Things went much better for the Islanders in their 3-1 victory over the Lightning. When did the Isles start winning?...However the Devils broke an eight game win streak with their 5-2 loss to the Capitals...The Canadiens handed the Pens their third straight loss, 4-2. Not exactly the way you want to play when you're trying to get a playoff spot...Mats Sundin had a goal and an assist in the Canucks 4-3 edging of the Hurricanes. The win ended an eight game slide...Eric Lindros has resigned as ombudsman of the NHL players union.
