Braves Update:
Yunel Escobar may have had the homerun of his life off of childhood idol Orlando Hernandez on Tuesday, but it was the Braves as a whole who really had a great night in their 13-5 thrashing of the New York Mets. The Braves got off to an early lead and then scored six runs in the forth to break the game wide open. Buddy Carlyle lasted only 4 1/3 innings after giving up three runs in the fifth but a stellar bullpen held the Mets to just two more runs the rest of the way. The Braves look to not only take the rubber game tonight but the season series. Currently, the Braves have a one game advantage over the Mets. Come out to Shea (not just because I'll be there) or watch the game on TV. Coverage starts at 7:10 PM/est on ESPN with John Smoltz going up against John Maine.
Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 8.5
Games above .500: 3
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres
Braves Notes: Chipper Jones was out again last night after injuring his oblique during batting practice on Monday...Clint Sammons was called up from AA-Mississippi to replace Braves back up catcher Corky Miller...Julio Franco received what may end up being his final homerun ball from Stony Point, NY resident Tom Dunn on Tuesday. Dunn had caught the ball at Chase Field in Arizona on May 4th when Franco was playing for the Mets. Franco traded the ball for a game used autographed bat.
NASCAR Update:
Clint Bowyer is scheduled to qualify for his third Truck Series race this season.
Roush Fenway Racing may be looking to acquire New Hampshire International Speedway.
Following Car of Tomorrow testing at Talladega Speedway earlier this week, speeds were noticably down from last year. October's Dega race marks the first time COT cars will take the track at super speedway.
News & Notes: Injured Buffalo Bill Kevin Everett had some movement in his arms and legs. It is a small miracle in what will be a long recovery for Everett...The Cleveland Browns traded quarterback Charlie Frye to the Seattle Seahawks for a sixth round pick moving rookie Brady Quinn up to the second spot on the depth chart. (I think I just coughed up something.)...The New England Patriots may lose some draft choices after a report surfaced that the NFL viewed a confiscated tape that proved the Pats were recording the New York Jets' defensive signals during their game on Sunday...In other crappy Jets news, Chad Pennington will probably miss Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens which should make Jets fans cheer again...I guess the Chicago White Sox must be taking whatever Ozzie Guillen's giving them because they just signed Guillen to an extension that will keep the bleeping coach around until 2012. The White Sox currently share the worst record in baseball with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and the Florida Marlins...Finally, Royals pitcher Neal Musser will miss the remaninder of the season after he broke his hand punching a chair in the Royals' clubhouse. Doesn't top burning your hand with a George Foreman grill while making chicken salad, or actually burning your foot with a George Foreman grill becuase you like the smell of crackling bacon, but I like the intensity.
Check it out: If early estimates are correct, 50 Cent will be retiring. 50 said if he did not outsell Kanye West he'd retire and West is projected to sell over 600,000-700,000 copies of his latest record while 50 is projected for around 500,000. Oh, and Kenny Chesney is all projected to sell more than 50. To read Detroit Tigers' centerfielder Curtis Granderson's thoughts about this topic click here.
It's been fun blogging with you,
