TGIF stands for Kick Some Ass Atlanta!

Braves Update:
The Braves open up a series against the Washington Nationals tonight at Turner Field. While the Nationals seem like an easy sweep, the Braves have found it difficult to win series against them let alone sweep, that was until June. With the Braves coming off a difficult interleague schedule, which saw them barely able to score a run against the Detroit Tigers, they were able to take out all of their frustration on the Nats. With a steep hill to climb to get a playoff spot, they'll have to do the same this weekend. Cheer on your team in the seats at Turner Field or on TV because time is running out. The Braves play begins at 7:35 PM/est on FSN. Their next two games will be televised on TBS.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 7.5
Games above .500: 3
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres

Braves Notes: The Braves are unwilling to give in even with less than a month left in the season and a 7.5 game deficit behind the Mets in the NL East. The team realizes that it will take a lot of winning on their part and a lot of losing on the Mets' but with a three game series in Queens slated for next week (which I'll be attending and tickets are still available) it will be a great time to make up some ground.

NASCAR Update:
The final race before the chase takes place in Richmond on Saturday night under the lights for the Chevy Rock & Roll 400. Dale, Jr. needs a miracle, at least a fifth place finish while leading the most laps at bare mininium to make it in. He'll also need Harvick to finish somewhere near the tail end of the field. All and all if Harvick finishes better than 33rd and leads a lap, Junior is screwed. Coverage begins at 7 PM/est on ABC.

Even though he won't be sponsored by Budweiser next season, Junior will still be letting the beer flow after announcing he'll be opening a bar in downtown Charlotte. Whiskey River, is named after the bar in Earnhardt's basement and will have a similiar feel. I think I'd rather go to the bar in his basement.

Jeremy Mayfield's crew chief, Joe Lax, was suspended for two races and fined $25,000 after a rules infraction found during inspection at California Speedway last week. Does this apply to the races NASCAR runs or the one's Mayfield actually makes?

UPDATE: Dale Earnhardt, Jr. will be on PTI on ESPN at 5:30 PM/est today. (Reairs at 6:30 PM/est on ESPNews) Junior will be interviewed during the Five Good Minutes segment. (via Jayski)

News & Notes: Rick Ankiel hit two homeruns in the St. Louis Cardinals 16-4 whooping of the Pittsburgh Pirates. This was the same day that reports surfaced that he had taken HGH in 2004 before it was banned by MLB...The Indianapolis Colts' defense strutted their stuff in their 41-10 win over the New Orleans Saints on Thursday...Right outside of the stadium, a man fell nine stories from the deck of the Sheraton Indianapolis City Centre Hotel that overlooked Monument Circle which was hosting the NFL Kick Off Concert. His condition has not been released...Jason Varitek's ninth inning RBI gave the Red Sox a 7-6 walk off win over the Baltimore Orioles. Who have won just one game since announcing their new manager, Dave Trembley in late August...The NFL season officially kicked off on Thursday. To see when and where your team is playing this weekend click here. By the way the New York Giants have the 8PM/est game on NBC against the Dallas Cowboys. Let's go BIG BLUE!...

And finally, my family suffered a loss on Thursday, my brother's dog Berry died in her sleep. She was the sweetest dog. Even though she was deaf and had cushions disease, shenever let that affect her. She always had a smile on her face. May Berry rest in peace.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
