The Popo Awards: Best Use of a Bat

With the season dwindling down, I wanted to present my own awards, the Popos. Each day I'll post Popo Award Nominees.

Today's: Best Use of a Bat

Martin Prado
I think the clip says it all, like Halley's Comet, this happens once every 75 years!

Jose Offerman
It was all going so well in an Independent Atlantic League game between the Long Island Ducks and the Bridgeport Bluefish until Matt Beech struck Jose Offerman with a pitch. Apparently, you don't disrespect Jose Offerman unless you want to get knocked with a bat. Offerman charged the mound striking Beech and breaking his finger while also giving catcher John Nathans a concussion when Nathans was struck with Offerman's' back swing. Jose was arrested and charged with assualt.

Alex Rodriguez
Practically a shoe-in for the AL MVP, Rodriguez's line looks something like this: .310/52/142/.416/.646. (AVG/HR/RBI/OBP/SLG) Not too bad for someone who notched his 500th homerun earlier this season and has been able to bail the Yankees out of a 22-29 start through May 31st which had them 13.5 back of the Boston Red Sox to a 87-64 mark with the Yanks leading the AL Wild Card and only 2.5 games back of the Sox.
(The above clip is of ARod's grand slam in June 2007 against the New York Mets)

Check back tomorrow to find out who won the Popo and see three more nominees.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate

All time best use of the bat goes to Roger Clemens on Piazza. Which reminds me, who would win in a fight: Roger Clemens or Roger Clamens? Oh, and vote for the new Zooperstar on their website! Go Pony Steward!
