coming home

Braves Update:
Tim Hudson found a great time to throw a complete game shutout in the Braves 3-0 win over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. Hudson scattered seven hits over his 100 pitch day to pick up the win and Mark Teixeira's two run single in the third was all the Braves needed to bring home a win. Kelly Johnson hit a homerun in the fourth to tack onto the 2-0 lead. The Braves will take on the Fish tonight at Turner Field. Action starts at 7:05 PM/est on SS.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 7.5
Games above .500: 3
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres

Braves Notes: Atlanta Braves fans got their first view at what could be the future in another Jones boy, Brandon Jones. One day removed from winning the AAA International League championship with the Richmond Braves, Jones made his major league debut in left field on Sunday...Chipper Jones returned to the lineup on Friday against the Nationals after missing the Mets series with a strained oblique...The Braves announced their players of the year in each of their divisions. Click here to see their names...Tim Hudson, John Smoltz, Jeff Francoeur, Brian McCann and John Schurholtz got some rare one on one time with President Bush when the team headed to Washington DC last weekend.

NASCAR Notes:
Clint Bowyer picked the perfect weekend to grab his first career win in the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. It also marked the first race in the Chase and for maybe the first year, defending Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson finished a solid sixth at the fall New Hampshire race. While other Chasers Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Kyle Busch, Martin Truex, Jr. and Matt Kenseth finished in the top 10, a few guys had some trouble notably, Kurt Busch who had engine trouble most of the day and finished 25th.
Race Results Points Standings

Reports have Dale Earnhardt, Jr. driving the #88 car next season for Hendrick Motorsports. I was kind of hoping for the 81 because I don't have a preconceived notion when I see that number. When I see 88, even 27 races into this season, I still think Dale Jarrett. At least I'll have the Dale part right.

Tony Stewart's #20 car was deemed too low during post race inspection but NASCAR ruled that the car was low due to race damage and it was allowed to pass inspection.

Word is spreading about a possible Gillett Evernham Motorsports merger with Petty Enterprises. The new team would house four Cup cars. (via jayski.com)

Popo in my crib News:
Pitt basketball player Levance Fields was arrested on Sunday when he attempted to steal a weapon from an off duty popo outside of Pure nightclub. Fields was "subdued with a stun gun." I love it when people get tasered. Watch out Levance, because the popo are on your tail!

The Duquesne University basketball player Stuart Baldonada, who has already been charged with "acting as a lookout for a man accused of selling marijuana" had his court date postponed so he could fly down to Florida to take care of a little domestic violence charge against him. Don't you hate it when your two court dates fall on the same day? Watch out Stuart, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: A pair of homeruns won games for two AL teams on Sunday including a walk-off 500th career blast for Jim Thome in the White Sox 9-7 win over the Los Angeles Angels and Derek Jeters' 3 run homer in the Yankees 4-2 win over their rival Red Sox...Greg Dobbs hit a pinch hit grand slam in the Phillies' 10-6 win over the New Yor Mets to complete the three game sweep...Congrats to Tiger Woods on his $10 million payday for winning the FedEx Cup. Finally a deserving person gets the money he needs...Alabama entered the Top 25 for the first time since 2005 after beating Arkansas 41-38 on Saturday...Duke broke its 22 game losing streak after taking out Northwestern 20-14...The Cleveland Browns beat the Cincinnati Bengals 45-51 on Sunday. And I thought the Giants/Cowboys game was bad...And finally, Brett Favre passed John Elway on the all-time wins list after leading his Green Bay Packers to a 31-13 win over the New York Giants.
