comin' on strong

Braves Update:
On Monday, while I was watching the Braves game, I think Joe Simpson said that he had talked to one of the Phillies' broadcasters and he said that all you needed to do to beat the Braves was load the bases with no outs. The Phillies took that advise on Tuesday in their 5-2 win. But the Phillies' broadcaster said that if you wanted to beat the Phillies let them build a five run lead, and the Braves did just that. The Phils got off to a 5-0 lead after the second inning off of Tim Hudson. But the Braves faught back scoring 2 runs in the sixth from a Willie Harris homerun. But it wasn't until the eighth inining that the Braves really picked up steam scoring four runs and then another three in the ninth for their 9-8 win. Matt Diaz gets the hero trophy with his game winning three run double. Diaz has really provided an offensive spark this season making him the Adam LaRoche of 2007. As a reward for their hard work on Wednesday, the Braves get a day off today before starting their series against the Washington Nationals on Friday.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 7.5
Games above .500: 3
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres

Braves Notes: Brian McCann is listed as day-to-day after aggrevating his left ankle during Wednesday's game...Because of his hard work and big heart, the Braves have nominated Tim Hudson for the Roberto Clemente Award which honors not just on the field work but a players charitable commitment to the community.

NASCAR Update:
Joe Gibbs Racing announced they officially are switching to Toyota in 2008.

Carl Edwards will host "The Chase's On" on Speed this fall. The show premieres on September 6th at 8 PM/est.

Coors will not be returning to the hood of Chip Ganassi's #40 car in 2008. Who can blame them? The car hasn't been in victory lane since Jamie McMurray won in his second start in 2002.

Popo in my crib News:
In anything you can do I can do better news, two Baylor female athletes were charged with beating a woman in a park. Basketball player Latara Shanica Darret and volleyball player Ashlee Genae Cooper allegedly conforted the victim in park. Cooper threw the first punch and the victim attempted to defend herself by pulling out a knife but then dropped the knife and proceeded to get beat up. Why did you drop the knife? The pair are charged with assault causing bodily injury and could face a year in jail. Watch out Latara and Ashlee, because the popo are on your tail!

Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden was arrested on Wednesday after driving his SUV in reverse down a one-way street outside of an airport. He then decided to get all mouthy with the popo, which is never a good idea. Lt. Thomas Stacho told reporters, "He (Bodden) indicated he was there to pick up his people, whoever his people are." Bodden is charged with aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest as well as failing to produce a driver's license and driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Watch out Leigh, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Maybe short rest wasn't a good call, as Jake Peavy and the San Diego Padres got rocked by the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-6...I guess Arod is ok after undergoing an MRI, the Yankees 3B knocked two out of the park in the Yanks 10-2 win over the Seattle Mariners. The Bombers now have a three game lead in the Wild Card...In maybe they are desperate news, the Brew Crew hit five homeruns in their 14-2 win over the Houston Astros. But with the Cubbies 8-2 win over the Dodgers, the Brewers remain one game back...JaMarcus Russell maybe seeing the light. With the NFL season kicking off tonight and his Raiders taking the field on Sunday, the #1 pick in the draft has resumed talks with Raiders and might be close to a deal that reportedly could get him $31 million in guaranteed money...Finally, replay is expanding in the NBA this season. Refs can use the video to "scan for fights" and review flagrant fouls.

It's been fun blogging with you,
