Don't mess with the government, boys!

Football Update:
Injury report: Chargers' LaDainian Tomlinson is a go for Sunday's game against the Patriots while quarterback Philip Rivers is questionable with a sprained right knee.

Deion Branch will get a second opinion before undergoing knee surgery to repair ligament damage.

Draft Update: Michigan's Mario Manningham joined Arkansas teammates Darren McFadden and Felix Jones in entering the NFL draft.

Baseball Update:
The Congressional hearings get underway with Bud Selig, Don Fehr and George Mitchell testifying. Click here to watch the hearings live.

Congress is investigating Miguel Tejada to see if he lied to committee staff in 2005. Now Miguel, is it better to be labeled a cheater or to be sent to jail? I'm pretty sure most people would rather have their freedom.

It's official, Troy Glaus is headed to St. Louis for Scott Rolen.

Former Braves first baseman Adam LaRoche signed a one year, $5 million contract with the Pirates to avoid arbitration.

Chris Shelton was designated for assignment to make room for rhp Kazuo Fukumori who was signed to a 2 year, $3 million deal by the Texas Rangers.

The Mets have named Tom Nieto as their first base coach replacing Ricky Henderson.

Former Major League pitcher Joe Kennedy, who died in November, "was found to have died of natural causes, specifically hypertensive heart disease." He was 28.

Yesterday, the baseball world mourned the loss of former Brooklyn Dodger Johnny Podres and today comes word, Don Cardwell who was a part of the New York Mets 1969 World Series team, has died at the age of 72. If I a member of a Yankees World Series team, I'd be worried.

Braves Update:
The Braves officially have a centerfielder and his name is Mark Kotsay. Kotsay was traded to the Braves from the Oakland A's for reliever Joey Devine and minor leaguer Jamie Richmond.

News & Notes: All hell is breaking loose, as the Boston Celtics have lost two in a row after falling to the Wizards 88-83...The Lakers win a nail bitter in Seattle, 123-121 in OT...The Lakers also learned they'll be without Andrew Bynum for 8 weeks with an injured knee...#16 Pitt upset #6 Georgetown with a 69-60 win...University of Georgia president Michael Adams officially presented the NCAA Divison I board of directors with his 8 team football playoff...Evgeni Malkin recorded his second hat trick in 11 days in the Penguins 4-1 win over the Rangers...Roger Federer, James Blake and Venus Williams all advanced to the next round at the Aussie Open...Dale Jarrett paced a.m. practice while Dave Blaney took the top spot during the p.m. session.

Daytona Testing

Last week, Nascar kicked off its 2008 testing at Daytona International Speedway. Testing, especially at Daytona can be a smidge tedious. Or as Dale Earnhardt, Jr. said "I'll be bored as everybody else when I'm testing myself." (USA Today)

This year's Daytona 500 will mark the first time the COT Sprint Cup cars will race at the 2. 5 mile track making testing more important and bringing out the likes of Tony Stewart, following a self-imposed two year absence.

Even with the single car runs and the adventual small packs circling the track, the most exciting part of testing is the fact that Speedweeks is only 6 weeks away!

Romo to have more time to spend in Cabo with girlfriend, girlfriend's parents

Football Update:
The Giants can credit both their offense for getting 21 points on the board and their defense for holding the Cowboys to only 17 points, but their special teams was the spark that catipulted the team into the NFC title game. Eli Manning made it two straight games without a interception, while the Cowboys' Tony Romo made one interception that ended the game with 9 seconds to go in their 21-17 loss.

Following the game, Terrell Owens made an emotional plea to the media to leave Tony Romo's personal life out of it. Click here for video.

Congratulations to Greg Ellis on being named the Comeback Player of the Year.

Earlier on Sunday, the Chargers upset the Indianapolis Colts 28-24. When the day started did you think Eli would be the only Manning playing next weekend?

Colts coach Tony Dungy will now have to decide whether he'll be returning next season.

Saturday was a good day for home teams at the Green Bay Packers beat the Seahawks 42-20 and the Patriots beat the Jaguars 31-20.

Packers coach Mike McCarthy is close to getting an extension.

The Patriots' director of college scouting Thomas Dimitroff will be the new general manager of the Atlanta Falcons.

The Cleveland Browns have promoted defensive backs coach Mel Tucker to defensive coordinator.

Baseball Update:
New York Mets outfielder Endy Chavez has injured both his hamstring and ankle playing winter ball in Venezuela. And this is why the Yankees wouldn't allow Robby Cano to play winter ball.

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed Mike Cameron to a one year, $7 million contract. Cameron will miss the first 25 games of the season for testing positive to a banned stimulant.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays could be on the verge of a trade that would swap one all-star, Scott Rolen for another, Troy Glaus.

Former Cardinals senior VP and GM Walt Jocketty has been hired by the Cincinnati Reds as a special advisor.

A documentary on Orlando Hernandez aired in Cuba on Saturday.

Sad news, Former Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher Johnny Podres has died at the age of 75.

Braves Update:
While the Braves have contended that they would figure out the centerfield position come Spring Trianing when they get a good view of their outfield prospects including Jordan Schaeffer. But maybe they've decided that's not a good call after a report has the A's sending Mark Kotsay to Atlanta for reliever Joey Devine and cash. The possibility of the deal had many Braves smiling including Tom Glavine.

Former Brave Brian Jordan made an appearance at Braves FanFest when he read his book "I Told You I Can Play" to about 70 people.

Good news for Braves fans, Mark Teixeira seems to have healed very nicely from November's arthroscopic knee surgery.

Popo in my crib News:
LeBron James was ticketed by a state popo officer after being clocked going 101 mph on Interstate 71 near Medina on his 23rd birthday (December 23, 2007). Watch out LeBron, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: The Chicago Bulls voted to bench their teammate Joakim Noah for Sunday's game against the Hawks after he got into a verbal sparring match with assistant coach Ron Adams during practice on Friday. Noah missed Friday's game against the 76ers...The Bulls went onto lose the Hawks, 105-84...The Los Angeles Lakers slim 100-99 win over the Memphis Grizzles came at a cost as Andrew Bynum left in the third quarter with a sprained knee. Bynum will undergo an MRI to see the extent of the injury...Not only did the Knicks win, but they held the Pistons to just 65 points in their 89-65 win...The woeful Heat got a boost on Sunday after Shaq practiced for the first time since missing 8 games with an injured hip...Congrats to Bode Miller who picked up his record 27th World Cup win on Sunday...Red Bull Racing has hired Jay Frye as their GM...Sad news, Morgan-McClure Motorsports has closed its doors citing a lack of sponsorship...Congratulations to Damion "The Demon" Gardner on winning the Chili Bowl.

Call it a lesson learned, Marion

Marion Jones learned an important lesson on Friday, you don't mess with the US government. It's something my mom told me when I was debating whether I wanted to deal with my taxes last year (I filed them Uncle Sam, you can check). She told me "You can screw around with you credit card bill, forget to pay your electricity, but you don't screw around with the government."

Ms. Jones' lawyers had pleaded with prosecutors to spare her from being locked up claiming she had been through enough. But the federal prosecutors weren't in the giving spirit. And thanks to Marion's lying under oath, she'll be spending the next six months in jail. For her sake, I hope she's heading to Camp Cupcake where Martha Stewart infused her homemaking skills on the inmates at large.

Marion, you don't get any sympathy from me. You can lie to Barbara Walters or Mike Wallace but you can't lie to the government. Roger Clemens, I hope your taking notes!

Multimillionaire takes his fandom to another level

Multimillionaire lawyer Ed Hansen reportedly offered the University of Washington $200,000 to fire Ty Willingham and athletic director Todd Turner. Hansen had emailed the school saying:

"By this letter I hereby pledge to contribute a minimum of $100,000 towards alaw school scholarship within 90 days, conditioned upon the termination of Ty Willingham as football coach.

"In addition, I hereby pledge a second $100,000 towards a law school scholarship within 90 days, conditioned upon the termination of Todd Turner as athletic director.

"Also, I do not intend to contribute any further funds to the athletic department as long as these two gentlemen are employed by the university."

Hansen earned his money as the founder of Frontier Bank and currently holds $7 million in stock of said bank.

But this wasn’t the only person willing to voice his/her opinion, The Seattle Times read through over 1,000 emails that were sent to University President Mark A. Emmert, Willingham and Turner. Of those 1,000 emails almost 750 were “critical of Willingham” and at least 100 threatened to withdraw momentary support in the form of season ticket purchase or donations unless the school fired Willingham, Turner or both men.

Willingham has lead the Huskies to 11-25 record during his three year tenure while Turner has since resigned as AD of Washington effective January 31, 2008.

Dodgertown to become populated by Orioles?

50 years ago Walter O'Malley ruined by poor family's life by uprooting theier beloved Brooklyn Dodgers and bringing them to Los Angeles. Since then, my family’s baseball beliefs have splinted to include fanhood in the Yankees, Mets, Phillies and Braves.

One thing remained constant over the course of those 50 years, the team’s spring training facility in Vero Beach, FL. The team had moved there in 1948 while the Dodgers were still playing Brooklyn.

Starting in 2009 (as long as their new facility in Glendale, AZ is ready), the Dodgers will be moving out and a new tenant is said to be taking over Dodgerville. The rumor is the team is the Baltimore Orioles who currently reside in Fort Lauderdale, although that hasn't been confirmed. All that is known is a major league team has taken an option on the facility and Orioles seem a likely fit since their lease is up in 2008 with an option for 2009.

After their spring training move the only thing linking them to the past will be LA’s Brooklyn born manager, Joe Torre.

It's a rainy kind of day

Football Update:
The Giants take their road win streak to Dallas for a chance to beat a Cowboy team that swept their regular season series. Things could change as Dallas has limped into the postseason and will not have their star WR Terrell Owens at 100%. The Giants have injures of their own including center Sean O'Hara and CB Sam Madison. Tune into FOX at 4:30 PM to catch all the action.

Giants VP of player evaluation Chris Mara has pulled his candidacy for the Falcons' GM position.
Wade Phillips lead the Cowboys to a 13-3 season. And whether or not the team wins its first playoff game in 11 years, he'll be back as the head coach in '08.

And speaking of the Cowboys, Tony when you're ready rid yourself of Jessica Simpson, Michael Straham will be happy to take her off your hands.

With a meeting against the Seahawks on the horizon, Brett Favre told a local paper he maybe back for 2008.

Tony Dungy isn't sure what the future will hold, but he won't make any decisions until after the season is over. The Colts will be taking on the Chargers in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Pete Carroll is mulling over a chance to become the Falcons' new head coach (don't do it!) but it's not because of a new book that documents Reggie Bush's $300,000 payday while at USC is it?

Mike Shanahan is taking blame for the Broncos 7-9 season.

Hines Ward underwent his third knee surgery on Wednesday.

Kevin Everett is still recovering from a spinal cord injury he sustained in the Bills first regular season game, but the tight end is thanking the city of Port Arthur, TX for all of its support.

The NFL, MLB and the USOC have joined together in an anti-doping research collaborative. The NFL and MLB will give the USOC $3 million "to create the most expensive drug-fighting partnership to date."

Baseball Update:
The Jake is no more. In name that is, Jacobs Field will hence forth be known as Progressive Field. Wrigley and Fenway, you better not get any ideas!

Outfielder Jason Lane has accepted a Minor League contract from the Yankees while former Brave Chris Reitsma accepted a Minor League deal from the Mariners and the Cardinals signed Josh Phelps to a minor league contract.

The Red Sox will reportedly re-sign back up catcher Doug Mirabelli.

Even with a 25 game suspension luming, the Yankees are one of the teams reportedly interested in outfielder Mike Cameron.

They are also leaning against a deal to bring Santana to the Bronx although that doesn't mean he won't be in one of New York's five boroughs. The Mets still have a chance.

Curt Schilling said 2008 will be his final year in baseball. After that he plans to work on a multi-player role-playing game that is going by Copernicus. And you will probably be able to buy it off his blog 38pitches.com.

Chuck Knoblauch has finally broken his silence about the Mitchell Report saying "I have nothing to defend...I have nothing to hide at the same time." Chuck, do you know what the definition of is is?

Speaking of roids, Kansas City Royals pitcher Jacob Rodriguez was suspened for 50 games after failing to take a drug test.

Popo in my crib News:
Marion Jones will find out her fate when she is sentenced on Friday in her federal case. Jones plead guilty for lying under oath about her steriods usage and her involvement in fraudulent check cashing. Watch out Marion, because the popo are on your tail

Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden was placed in handcuffs by the popo for his involvement in a "pretty rowdy scene" at a paino bar on Tuesday. Let's see, what's more embaressing, being placed in handcuffs or attending a piano bar? McFadden was later released by the popo. Mr. McFadden is no stranger to bar fights, in 2006 he injured his toe in a fight outside of a Little Rock club. Watch out Darren, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: It was a sad day yesterday as Edmund Hillary, the first person to climb Mt. Everest has died at the age of 88 and former US figure skater Christopher Bowman may have died of possible drug overdose at the age of 40...The Pistons stop their losing streak at two after beating the Spurs 90-80...If you thought it was bad scoring four points in one half Savannah St., you haven't met St. Louis who managed to score just 20 points in the whole game in their 49-20 loss to George Washington...On the other hand, UCLA scored almost 3 and half times more points in their 69-55 win over Washington...Washington's instate rival Washington State made it 14-0 with their 73-58 win over USC...Alex Ovechkin must love Washington because he accepted a 13 year, $124 million contract extension from the Caps...The Rangers were done in by a string of penalities which allowed the Flyers to come back from a 0-2 defecit to beat the Blue Shirts 6-2...This weekend is the Chilli Bowl in Tulsa, OK. Giants WR Plaxico Burress has some advice for T.O., "Don't play." I'm all for that!

The Cleveland Browns plans for 2008 and beyond will include Romeo Crennel and Derek Anderson. So the only question left is what are they going to do with Brady Quinn?

The Super Bowl generates millions of dollars for not only the network but the town in which it is held. This is exactly why Gridiron Greats is hoping it can make about $500,000 in the days leading up to the Super Bowl which would benefit former players.

Ricky Williams is adding to his depleted bank account by appearing in Spike TV's "Pros v. Joes." He'll be joined by Warren Moon, Pernell "Sweet Pea" Whitaker, Joe Carter and Derrick Coleman.

The Congressional hearing on baseball has been pushed back to February 13th to allow an additional investigation.

The Brewers signed reliever Brian Shouse to a one year $2 million contract.

Rumors have the Marlins interested in signing Luis Gonzalez.

Sad news, former Boston Red Sox owner Edward "Buddy" LeRoux has died. He was 77.

Popo in my crib News:

Virginia Tech running back Branden Ore testified in a U.S. District Court trail of Tony Majette on drug possession charges. Ore was in Majette's car when Ore claims Majette tossed him a baggy of crack cocaine after passing a popo car. Bronson Arroyo voices his pain through song

AOL Fanhouse has the latest clip of Reds pitcher Bronson Arroyo singing, this time at Peter Gammon's Hot Stove/Cool Music charity concert. While many people will be swayed by Arroyo's magical voice or the fact that he sang that he wanted to go back to Boston, we here at PIMC, on the other hand, are more entranced by his hair. He was having an amazing hair day, worthy of our Best Hair in Baseball title. Let's see if he can keep his mane up to our very high standards in 2008.

Seahawks kicker takes a ride on the bad idea train

Green Bay is expected to be a balmy 17 degrees during the Packers game against the Seahawks. But that temperature doesn't seem to be warm enough for Seahawks kicker Josh Brown who will be rocking a pair of heated warm up pants. The pants will have battery operated heaters located on the calves, thighs and hamstrings to keep his legs nice and toasty during the game.

Brown has said that it's harder for kickers to stay warm because they spend a lot of time on the sidelines. But how will you be able to kick when you're spending the night in the ICU after your pants burst into flames?

Giants will have to find Romo a new distraction

According to this people.com article, Jessica Simpson will not be attending the Cowboys playoff game against the Giants this weekend citing work conflicts. Simpson is currently trying to butcher my precious country music by putting out a new album. Hasn't the state of Texas suffered enough, Jess?

Don't get too down Giants fans, Carrie Underwood didn't attend the last Cowboys playoff game when Tony Romo fumbled the snap. It was just the mere thought of her that ushered in that lame play. I guess the Giants will have to beat the Cowboys the old fashion way, but just kicking their butts!

What's good for the Goose is good for the gander.

Football Update:
Congratulations go out to Tom Brady who has added Offensive Player of the Year to his trophy case beating out teammate Randy Moss for the honor. Brady already picked up the MVP Award over the weekend. Shouldn't the MVP Award be the final one handed out?

Injury Report: The Jaguars are hopeful defensive tackle John Henderson and safety Reggie Nelson will be able to play against New England this weekend. Especially since linebacker Mike Peterson will not be able to play, missing his eighth straight game with a broken hand.

It was a day of retiring/quitting/resigning as Jim Bates has resigned as defensive coordinator of the Denver Broncos, Hardy Nickerson quit his post as linebackers coach for the Bears and Bills offesnive line coach Jim McNally retired. Not to mention Joe Gibbs retirement reported in yesterday's post.

The Dolphins still need a head coach, but they do have a quarterbacks coach after hiring David Lee who was at Mississippi.

The 49ers have hired Mike Martz as their offensive coordinator. Martz was fired from his Lions' post last week.

The Falcons are reportedly going after USC head coach Pete Carroll to fill their vacant head coaching job.

Cleveland Browns rookie LT Joe Thomas was named to the Pro Bowl replacing Jason Peters.

Sad news, Former Chicago Bears coach Jim Dooley has died. He was 77.

Draft Update: Rutgers' Ray Rice will test the NFL draft waters...Tennessee will need to find a new linebacker after Jerod Mayo decided to enter the draft...Michigan could be lighter by three if Mario Manningham, Adrian Arrington and Ryan Mallett decide to skip their senior years...Meanwhile 5 Missouri players including Chase Daniel and Chase Coffman have decided to stay...Along with Washington State's Brandon Gibson and Cal's Alex Mack. (I wonder if can turn into liquid.)

Baseball Update:
Congratulations to Rich "Goose" Gossage on making it into the Hall of Fame. Gossage was the only player to receive the mandatory 75% vote. Jim Rice was the next closest missing an induction by just 16 votes.

The Colorado Rockies have signed former Brave Marcus Giles to a minor league contract.

The Mariners have signed Miguel Cairo to a one year deal.

The Texas Rangers are close to signing reliever Eddie Guardado. Guardado underwent reconstructive elbow surgery in September 2006.

Braves Notes:
The Braves are getting excited for this weekend's FanFest, including John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, Chipper Jones, Jeff Francoeur, Brian McCann and Mark Teixeira. Click here for more information.

Tom Glavine, who was scheduled to take the ice with the Atlanta Thrashers on Monday, was unable to attend due to illness. Glavine was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings in 1984, the same year he was drafted by the Braves.

Dakar Rally back on?

Following last week's announcement of the cancellation of the Dakar Rally, South America maybe stepping up as a new hosting site of the marathon truck, car and motorcycle race. The Chilean head of Tourism Oscar Santelices has sent a formal letter to Dakar organizer Amaury Sports Organization "expressing Chilie's interest to host it." Under the agreement, the Rally would cross through Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

The Dakar Rally, which has run annually since 1979, had been scheduled to take place in Africa but was canceled due to terrorism threats from Al Qa'eda. South America would offer a much safer atmosphere, but will be competing with other sites like Australia, Russia and China. A decision will be made in February.

Washington State player collapses during practice

Monday's practice for Washington State took a scary turn when reserve Stephen Sauls collapsed and stopped breathing. The freshman guard was revived by trainer Nick Gallato before being taken to Pullman Regional Hospital.

During a team scrimage, Sauls, who hails from Missouri City, TX, may have suffered a concussion when he was hit with an elbow by another player. He later "went down on all fours, rose to his feet and walked around for a few seconds before falling to his knees, then to the floor."

This incident is following a very scary trend for young athletes.

NHL to Downie "Don't do it again."

The NHL has decided to give Philadelphia Flyer Steve Downie a warning for his actions during Saturday's game (as seen in the above clip.) While being restrianed by an official, Downie still found a way to pop Jason Blake in the eye.

Downie had already been given a 20 game suspension earlier in the season for a hit on Ottawa center Dean McAmmond during a preseason game.

This is what Nascar is missing a little post race action. (Less the cheap shot of course) Gone are the days of the Allison brothers kicking ass at Daytona, all we get is Carl Edwards faking out Matt Kenseth during an interview.

Onto New Hampshire

Ok, New Hampshire, it's your time to vote in the primaries!

Football Update:
Congratulations to the Indianapolis Colts' Bob Sanders on being named Defensive Player of the Year.

I guess Jaguars defensive lineman Paul Spicer has not been paying attention to how the Patriots work. Insult them and they'll kick your asses all game long. Leave them alone and they'll make you think that you can win, and then kick the game winning field goal with 3 seconds left on the clock. Looks like it's going to be a blow out in New England.

Injury round-up: Speaking of Jacksonville, they could have linebacker Mike Peterson back in time for their game against the Patriots. Peterson has been out with a broken hand...Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck looks like a go for their game against the Packers...Giants starters Shawn O'Hara and Sam Madison have not yet been cleared to play in Sunday's game against the Cowboys and it is uncertain whether they will play...For the Cowboys T.O. will be a game time decision.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum believes Chad Pennington will be back with the team in 2008.

A week after the big coaching perge, the St. Louis Rams have fired offesnive line coach Paul Boudreau and removed offesnive coordinator Greg Olson. Olson could be reassigned within the team.

Meanwhile, Green Bay extended GM Ted Thompson's contract to keep him with the team through 2012.

Former Steelers coach Bill Cowher openly questioned Pittsburgh's motives in calling a two point conversion play during their loss to the Jaguars. Luckily for Bill, he was able to run his own personal game plan from the glass house in which he does TV broadcasting.

Best Headline of the Day: Recharged Romo, Cowboys back to work. I guess he had a nice time in Cabo with his friends, his girlfriend and his girlfriend's parents.

UPDATE: Joe Gibbs will reportedly step down as head coach of the Washington Redskins.

Baseball Update:
The Hall of Fame will announce its new inductees today at 2 PM.

Roger Clemens held a press conference where he played a 17 minute clip of conversation with Brian McNamee. That's the last I'm writing about Clemens unless he admits he's done steroids or comes out of retirement.

Andy Pettitte retained former Sammy Sosa lawyer Jay Reisinger for Pettitte's upcoming congressional appearance.

The Mets have re-signed Duaner Sanchez to a one year, $850,000 contract.

The Phillies avoided arbitrtation by signing Jayson Werth to a one year, $1.7 million contract. Werth batted .298 with eight homers and 49 RBIs in 2007. I can only imagine how much money Ryan Howard is going to make next season. It will probably be way more than his current $900,000 salary.

The Tampa Bay Rays have signed veteran catcher Mike DiFelice to a minor league contract.

The Brewers and Tigers made some mass signings.

The Blue Jays added Shawn Camp to their minor league roster.

If the Orioles trade pitcher Erik Bedard it's looking more likely that it will be to Seattle.

MLB has announced plans to tighten security in its clubhouse effective immediately.

According to this report, it's looking like Jose Conseco's new book will not be nearly as juicy as his first.

Popo in my crib News:
Michael Vick is trying to reduce his sentence by entering a durg treatment program in a Kasas prison. The former NFL star QB, currently serving a 23 month sentence for his role in a dog fighting ring, was housed in a Virginia prison before being moved to Leavenworth. Watch out Mike, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Congratulations to LSU on becoming National Champions following their 38-24 win over Ohio State...June Jones could not be swayed by the Governor of Hawaii and will be heading to SMU...A four team BCS playoff? It could happen...Savannah St. walked into the locker room during halftime only 16 points out and finished 60 points behind in their 85-25 loss to Kansas State. Maybe it was the four point second half score total that did them in...Like Savannah St., the Ducks also had a four point period, but it's hockey so that usually means they'll win and they did a 5-2 victory over the Predators to be exact...It was a high scoring affair in the Suns 137-115 win over the Nuggets...However the Warriors-Spurs game wasn't exactly a defensive game with the Warriors 130-121 victory. Although it did go to OT...The Stars extended center Mike Ribeiro's contract by five years adding $25 million to his wallet...Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman is sorry for his Tiger Woods comments. Somewhere Rory Sabbatini is laughing...Jimmie Johnson paced the first day of Daytona testing...Was it because Johnson was visited by teammate Dale Earnhardt, Jr. who does not test until next week? Probably not.

Check this out: I owe so much to Starbucks and their frappuccinos, especially because it's the only way I get caffiene in the morning. So when I read that Howard Schultz was returning as CEO as part of huge restructuring campaign at the coffee giant I got nervous. 34 year win streak snapped for Florida High School

The last time Brandon High School lost a wrestling match, Richard Nixon was still in the White House and the Godfather was winning a Best Picture Oscar. 34 years later South Dade High School finally ended Brandon's unbeaten streak in the finals of the Jim Graves "Beat the Streak" tournament.
"We broke that history," South Dade senior Tico Baez told the St. Petersburg
Times. "Even the guys that weren't supposed to win, they overcame their fears
and won the match."

Brandon's hot streak began when an untested coach, Jim Graves, took over the team in 1973. Over the course of 34 years, Brandon had picked up 66 individual state championships and 18 team titles.

Things I learned at the Versus Invitational

1. Bullriders are from places like North Carolina, Montana, Texas, Alberta and South America. Because aparently, all of the countries of South America have banded together to make a super country/continent kind of like Australia.

2. The PBR is a lot like Nascar, similiar fans and they both have an invocation. Although, during Nascar races, people generally don't cheer during said invocation even when they mention the USA is the greatest country in the world. Nascar fans seem to take their praying way more seriously.

3. What's the point of an American flag if it's not three stories high. (thx. Howard)

4. Bullriders have really horrible hair. It's like they all wait in line to get a bowl cut. I'm pretty sure even supercuts could give you a better hair cut than the rodeo clown.

5. Real bullriders wear cowboys hats not helmets or a cowboy hat over a helmet.

6. It's a good idea to stay on the bull for eight seconds. Ah, now that Luke Perry movie makes so much more sense.

7. Extra style points should be awarded for the riders dismounts from the bull. Especially when they flip off the bull, land on their head and get up in time to avoid being stomped on by the bull.

8. Bullriders may give it up to the J man more than pitchers when they go to the mound. They also only give props after they've riden never before.

9. The best part is when the bulls get ornery.

10. The buldozer is the PBR's version of the zamboni.

It feels like a heat wave

Football Update:
The Giants started off slow in the first quarter but were able to turn the corner in the second quarter scoring 14 points on their way to a 24-14 win over Tampa Bay and their first playoff win since 2000. Eli Manning was impressive throwing two TD passes and NO interceptions for 185 yards. The Giants will take on the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the playoffs this weekend.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is hopeful Terrell Owens will play in the game againt Big Blue. Of course, the amount of game time is still up in the air.

The Giants weren't the only team breaking a long losing streak, the Chargers with a 17-6 win over the Titans won their first playoff game since 1994.

...But the Chargers euphoria hit a snag after losing TE Antonio Gates with a toe injury in the seoncd quarter.

The Seahawks ended the feel good story of the last 6 weeks by blowing out the Reskins 35-14 on Saturday. The Skins road into the playoffs with a four game win streak which began shortly after the death of teammate Sean Taylor.

Following their loss, the Redskins got a visit from Sean Taylor's father Pedro.

The Jaguars were up by 19 points before blowing a lead in the fourth quarter only to come back and beat the Steelers 31-29. The Steelers failed on two attempted two-point conversions which helped seal thier fate.

Congratulations to Tom Brady on winning the MVP.

In other QB news, J.P. Losman would like to be traded by Buffalo. Losman was replaced and then replaced and then was replaced by rookie Trent Edwards during the season.

Cleveland Browns head coach Romeo Crennel is looking for a three year contract extension after his team barely missed the playoffs.

Cam Cameron may have just been fired by the Dolphins, but that doesn't mean he isn't wanted by other teams.

Central Florida's RB Kevin Smith will be going to the NFL.

Baseball Update:
Either Roger Clemens got some bad information about the risks of steriods or he's gone the Whitney Houston "show me the receipt" way of denial during his "60 Minutes" interview. Clemens told ageless wonder Mike Wallace that if he had taken steriods, "I should have a third ear coming out of my forehead, I should be pulling tractors with my teeth." I'd love to see him give that reasoning to congress next week, but first I'll have to check his schedule to see if he'll be able to show up.

Clemens also found time in his busy schedule to sue Brian McNamee for defamation.

The Texas Rangers signed 1B Ben Broussard to a one year, $3.85 million contract.

The St. Louis Cardinals signed infielder Aaron Miles to a one year deal.

The Royals signed pitcher Hideo Nomo to a minor league contract.

Meanwhile, the Royals designated Jason Smith for assignment to make room for Miguel Olivo on the 40 man roster.

The Mets aquired outfielder Angel Pagan from the Chicago Cubs for minor leaguers Corey Coles and Ryan Meyers.

Speaking of the Cubs, they were given permission to put in 70 "bullpen box seats" at Wrigley by the city of Chicago.

Don't worry Nationals fans, Luis Ayala will be fine following a hunting accident in Mexico. And no, neither Dick Cheney or Bobby Knight were present during the incident.

Sad news, Gerry Staley has died. He was 87 years old.

The Braves have released their 2008 Spring Training schedule. Click here to buy tickets.

Popo in my crib News:
The Tennessee Titans are asking to dismiss a lawsuit against the team stemming from a strip club shooting in February 2007 which involved Adam "Pacman" Jones. Tommy Urbanski, who was paralyzed in the shooting, and his wife are currently suing the NFL, the Titans, Pacman Jones and Harlem Knights in connection with the shooting. I'm all for getting your money when you can, but no one forced you to go to the strip club that night, so really the onus is on you, Tommy. Watch out people, because the popo are on your tail!

Former Montana State basketball player Brendan Miller pleaded guilty to homicide on Friday. Miller was a part the shooting death of cocaine dealer Jason Wright. Miller also pleaded guilty to assault with a weapon stemming from a bar fight that took place two weeks prior to Wright's murder. Miller will be senteced in May and is expected to receive 130 years in prison with an option for parole in 31 years. Watch out Brendan, because the popo are on your tail!

Former NBA star Isaiah Rider was held in custody on Sunday on outstanding arrest warrants following an incident with a taxi driver in Berkley, CA. Watch out Isaiah, because the popo are on your tail.

News & Notes: LeBron James' 24 points in the fourth quarter propelled the Cavs to a 93-90 win over the Raptors...Allen Iverson made his former team pay by scoring 38 points in the Nuggets 109-96 win over the 76ers...Manu Ginobili returned to the Spurs following a 5 game absence to help the Spurs beat the Clippers 88-82...UNC escaped a near upset by Clemson thanks to Wayne Ellington's game winning 3 pointer in OT in the Tar Heels 90-88 win...Duke recovered from a slow start to beat Cornell 81-67...Hawaii's football head coach June Jones is debating on whether to accept a position at SMU or stay at Hawaii...In way Bowl games are getting out of control news, Tulsa defeated Bowling Green 63-7 in the GMAC Bowl...Tonight, LSU will battle Ohio State for the BSC title. Friday Funnies

Yesterday we posted about a kid who was arrested outside of MSG for selling "Fire Isiah" t-shirts. Turns out the kid is no stranger to press. Not only has he been on multiple NYC sports radio talk shows over the past two days, but he was also on local TV back in December.

Bucs extend Giants fans olive branch

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers rescinded their restrictions placed on the sale of playoff tickets after complaints were lodged against the team by New York attorney general Andrew Cuomo. The Buccaneers, partnered with Tickemaster, had limited ticket sales to Florida residents before opening up sales to the rest of the nation.

"Earlier today we received a request from Ticketmaster to open sales outside of Florida for the remaining 500 tickets," said Jeff Kamis, director of the Buccaneers public relations. "It was determined that due to our long relationship with Ticketmaster and numerous requests from Buccaneer fans out of state, we would honor their request."

Of course, all you Giants fans who were not able to purchase one of those remaining 500 tickets will have to flock to stubhub to purchase your over priced playoff tickets after being gauged by your hotel and airfare.

Let the playoffs begin

Football Update:
Bill Belichick has been voted the AP coach of the year for leading the New England Patriots to the first unbeaten season in 25 years.

Warren Sapp is reportedly going to tell the Raiders he's retiring. Which is funny, because until I read this story, I thought he had already retired. Oops!

Yesterday we listed the coaching openings in the NFL and already there are rumblings as to who will fill them. Mike Nolan who was relieved of some his non-coaching duties has listed possible replacements to the three offensive coaching postion openings. They included Cam Cameron, Mike Martz and Brian Billick to replace Jim Hostler as offensive coordinator.

...Browns offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is expected to interview for the Batlimore Ravens job.

...But don't expect Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to jump ship. He apparently knows a good thing when he sees it.

Injury round-up: Terrell Owens status for the Cowboys game next week is still up in the air after missing practice on Thursday. Owens has been out for two weeks with a sprained ankle...Meanwhile the Titans added Roydell Williams to the injury brigade. Williams broke his ankle in practice...Oh, in case you were wondering, Mathias Kiwanuka will not play in the wild card game for the Giants after breaking his leg in November. I must be really behind, but did anyone think he was going to play again this season after breaking his leg?

The Chargers still have 500 playoff tickets left and 24 hours to sell them to avoid a TV blackout. So if you're in San Diego and you fell like shelling out $110-$135 to see a playoff game this may be your year.

Baseball isn't the only sport setting attendence records, the NFL has hit a new attendence high for the fifth straight season. 17,341,012 people went to a football game in 2007.

Baseball Update:
The A's Nick Swisher was sent to the Chicago White Sox for three prospects. After dealing Swisher and Haren the A's are officially in rebuilding mode.

The Cardinals have signed RHP Matt Clement to a one year, $1.5 million contract with a club option for 2009.

The San Diego Padres signed catcher Robert Fick, outfielder Jeff DaVanon and LHP Mike Megrew to minor league contracts.

Hank Steinbrenner is running his mouth but can he ever be trusted? After pronouncing the Yankees were out of the Santana deal, Steinbrenner says the offers still on the table and it's the best one out there. (Except for the fact that the Twins don't like Melky.)

...And the Yankees won't sign Roger Clemens.

Speaking of Clemens, more Mitchell Report fallout, (I'm really getting bored of this story)He told 60 Minutes that Brian McNamee was shooting him up, but not with steriods, instead it was "Lidociane and B-12." Why can't you just take a pill like the rest of us?

Carlos Delgado is telling everyone the Mets were the team out there in 2007. Funny, I must have missed their playoff appearance.

News & Notes: Kansas nipped Virginia Tech 24-21 in the Orange Bowl...Luckily, she's retired, but if Martina Higgis ever has a hankering to play tennis, she'll have to wait two years after being banned for her failed drug test...It took the Blazers two overtimes but they were finally able to put the Bulls away, 115-109...It was close, but the Nuggets pulled out a 80-77 win over the Spurs...The Suns rallied from a 20 point deficit to beat the Sonics 104-96. Yeah, that performance is not going to keep your team in Seattle...Evgeni Malkin recorded his first hat trick in the Penguins 6-2 win over the Maple Leafs...The Rangers have gotten off to a rough start in their western Canada trip after falling to the Flames on Wednesday, the Rangers were dropped 3-0 by the Canucks on Thursday...Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and Landon Cassill will be sponsored by the National Guard in the Nationwide Series in 2008...The annual Dakar Rally was canceled on Friday one day before the race was scheduled to begin. The Rally was hampered by terror threats and the recent murder of a French family in Mauritania.

Note to Knicks fans: Leave your "Fire Isiah" stuff at home

A 22 year old college student was arrested and held for three hours for selling "Fire Isiah" t-shirts outside of Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Ivan Cash, who attends the State University of New York at Geneseo, was waiting outside of MSG for a friend who had a vendor's license when he arrested. Cash was then finger printed, booked, held and adventually let go with a ticket following the end of the Knicks game.

Cash figured he had sold 100 shirts at $20 a pop over the course of the past three games before he was hassled on Wednesday.
"The police came up to me at every game before and asked me what I was doing," said Cash. "I told them. They shrugged, and that was that."

So if you're planning on attending the next Knicks home game remember to leave your "Fire Isiah" gear at home if you plan on staying for the game.

Before you head over to your caucus, Iowa...

It's been a few days since we've really blogged, so here's the top stories from the past three days.

Football Update:
The Baltimore Ravens will be looking for a new coach after they fired Brian Billick on Monday.

Standing next to Billick in the unemployment line is former Lions offensive coordinator Mike Martz who was fired on Tuesday. Offensive line coach Jim Colleto and wide receivers coach Kippy Brown were promoted to take over for Martz...The Kansas City Chiefs fired offensive coordinator Mike Solari, offensive line coach John Matsko, receivers coach Charlie Joiner and runnings back coach James Saxon on Tuesday. Let me guess, you weren't happy with your offesnive production...And Bengals defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan and linebackers coach Ricky Hunley who were given pink slips on Wednesday.

Mike Nolan still has a job, but it no longer includes the GM title. Nolan will remain the head coach of the 49ers but Scot McCloughan will become their GM.

Meanwhile, Jeff Ireland has left his player personnel position with the Cowboys to become the new GM for the Dolphins. I don't know if that's a good decision or not.

The Chargers gave GM A.J. Smith a five year extension that will keep him San Diego through 2014. The extension was said to be worth $11 million.

Congratuations to Adrian Peterson on being named the NFL offensive Rookie of the Year.

The playoffs are upon us so here's a brief injury report: Vince Young practiced for the Titans but that doesn't mean they won't have some holes to fill. Tight end Bo Scaife was placed on IR with a lacerated liver. How do you do that?...Shuan O'Hara, Kawika Mitchell and Sam Madison missed practice for the Giants with various injuries. Pull yourself together guys, we have to at least pretend like we have a shot on making it past the first round...Meanwhile the Steelers may need to start recruiting from the various other teams that use Heinz Field on a regular basis with the growing list of injured players.

Oh and about Heinz Field, people are still complaining about the turf.

And if you were wondering, Kim Kardashian and Reggie Bush have not recently gotten engaged. I'm way behind on my Reggie Bush gossip, when did they even start dating again?

UPDATE: Add Cam Cameron's name to the growing list of recently umeployed coachs after he was fired by the Miami Dolphins on Thursday. In Cameron's only season with Miami, the team went 1-15.

Baseball Update:
After some major internal discussions, the Texas high school baseball coaches have decided to let alleged steriod user Roger Clemens talk at their convention. Because really, who were they going to get on such short notice, Craig Biggio?

Joe Torre must be pretty stoked he's out of New York. Torre has refused to comment on former player Roger Clemen's spat with Brian McNamee.

Outfielder Reed Johnson signed a one year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays worth $3.275 million.

Outfielder Chris Roberson was purchased by the Baltimore Orioles from the Philadelphia Phillies. Because if there is one position the Phillies have covered, it's the outfield.

Curtis Granderson is adding to his good guy status with a charity basketball game which will benefit the Curtis Granderson/Grand Kids Foundation.

Popo in my crib News:
Jim Leyritz was apparently no stranger to the popo at the time of his most recent accident last week. Leyritz was opperating with a suspended license stemming from a cell phone ticket in Albany, NY which he had not answered. Watch out Jimmy, because the popo are on your tail!

Marion Jones is asking for linency in her federal trial asking for just probation instead of jail time claiming she's suffered enough. Maybe next time you realize that you don't screw around with the federal government and answer the questions truthfully and then you don't have to worry about jail time. Watch out Marion, because the popo are on your tail!

News & Notes: Sad news, Korean boxer Choi Yo-sam has died after falling into a coma following his WBO intercontinental flyweight title figh win last week. He was 33...The Pistons continue their hot streak winning 106-93 over the Wizards making it ten straight wins for Detroit...The Celtics made it seven in a row with their 97-93 win over the Rockets...News Flash, the Knicks are horrible, even with Stephon Marbury back in the lineup the Knicks managed a 107-97 loss to the war wounded Kings...The NHL may have hit on something good. The New Years' Day outdoor game between the Peguins and Sabres drew a 2.6 rating making it the most watched game since 1996...Texas' Jamaal Charles will be heading to the NFL next year...Central Michigan has given coach Butch Jones a two year extension...West Virginia didn't need as much time as Michigan to find a replacement. They are expected to announce Bill Stewart as their new head coach...Speaking of West Virginia, they pulled off a 48-28 smashing of Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl...Nascar has released their Daytona test groups. ARod spends New Year's Eve with the people

(Photo: AP/Peter Morgan)

Alex Rodriguez decided to campaign for New Yorkers support in the heart of Times Square on New Year's Eve. I don't know if he was able to convert the estimated 1 million people who were packed in to see the ball, after all, it's a lot of tourists.
