Baseball: John Smoltz is open to returning to the Cardinals next season. Hopefully this happens so he, Chipper and Bobby Cox retire the same year and can go to the Hall together...Also hoping to comeback is Billy Wagner, despite reports to the contrary yesterday...The Nationals are just stealing people left and right. In the same week they took Braves scouting director Roy Clark, Washington has added Red Sox Latin American coordinator Johnny DiPuglia for their director of international operations...Texas hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo has rejected a one year contract and will not return to the Rangers next season...Boston pitching coach John Farrell will not be the next manager of the Cleveland Indians...Peter Gammons thinks owner Jeff Wilpon is the Mets real GM. Basketball: The NBA fined the Bobcats and their head coach Larry Brown $60,000 for his actions during an exhibition game on Monday...LeBron James missed the Cavs game on Wednesday with the flu. He was joined by teammates Darnell Jackson and Coby Karl who were also told to stay away from the arena as a precaution. Luckily it's still preseason otherwise, I am sure thye would have toughed it out...Even with the three out, the Cavs still played on, falling to the Wizards, 109-104...The Wizards lost Antwan Jamison in the first quarter with a shoulder sprain.

College Football: #5 Boise State held off Tulsa, 28-21...Great news, USC tailback Stafon Johnson is returning home 16 days after he injured himself weightlifting.

Football: Players want the Redskins to back coach Jim Zorn. It's not his fault they're terrible...Also taking one for the team, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers refuses to criticize his offensive line. That's probably a good call no matter how bad they are...Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew, however, has no problem throwing his coaches under the bus saying the play-calling is awful...The Steelers took another hit, defensive end Aaron Smith will miss the rest of the season with a torn rotator cuff...Even in these lean times, Bills fans still are able to pool enough money together to get a billboard asking for changes in the organization...After much controversy, Rush Limbaugh has been dropped by a group bidding for the Rams.


Hockey: In his return to Chicago, Nikolai Khabibulin wasn't able to keep his old team at bay, as the Blackhawks edged the Oilers, 4-3...The Rangers win streak is at six after another decisive third period allowed them to double up the Kings, 4-2...Also increasing their win streak were the Pens who still haven't been beaten on the road after Chris Kunitz beat Cam Ward with the 12th shot of the shootout to give Pittsburgh the 4-3 advantage over Carolina...The Stars buried the Predators, 6-0...Dallas got some more good news, forward Steve Ott is just about a week away from returning from an oblique muscle injury and Mike Modano could be even closer to rejoining the team...Thomas Vanek's injury is not as bad as it first appeared...Blue Jackets defenseman Jan Hejda will miss four to six weeks with a sprained left knee.

Nascar: Ford's new mustang which will race in the Nationwide Series has been revealed...Tony Stewart is excited to drive for Dale Earnhardt, Jr. in the Nationwide Series with weekend.


Best of the Rest: The US stormed back to tie Costa Rica, 2-2. The tie comes just days after teammate Charlie Davies was severly injured in a car accident.
