Championship Series Set: Division Series Wrap Up

Division Series Recap:

Saturday - Chicago Cubs @ Los Angeles Dodgers
The Dodgers wrapped up their Division Series with a 3-1 victory over the Cubs. LA continued their pitching dominance thanks to Hiroki Kuroda who tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings while James Loney and Russell Martin tallied RBIs in the win. Bring out the goats.

Dodgers win Series 3-0

Sunday – Philadelphia Phillies @ Milwaukee Brewers
Pat Burrell made up for his second half swoon with his two run homer in the third inning, proving to be the game decider in the Phils 6-2 win over the Brewers. Jimmy Rollins started the game off with a bang, knocking a lead-off homer to give the Phillies an early 1-0 lead, an advantage starter Joe Blanton was able to hold in his six plus innings of one run baseball. Jayson Werth added a solo shot as Philadelphia clinched their first series win since 1993.

Phillies win Series: 3-1

Monday's Games
Tampa Bay Rays @ Chicago White Sox
For all of the issues B.J. Upton faced during the middle of the season including his benching for not hustling, all seemed to have made an impression as the young centerfielder hit two homeruns in the Rays 6-2 victory over the White Sox. Andy Sonnanstine was able to contain the damage allowing just two solo homeruns over 5 2/3 innings before the Rays bullpen shut down the veteran Chicago lineup. With the win, Tampa Bay wrapped up their first ever post season series.

Rays win Series 3-1

Josh Beckett may not be his normal self this postseason, but luckily the Red Sox can turn to Jon Lester who has gone 14 innings without allowing a single run. Add to that Jason Bay – acquired in that famed Ramirez trade – and rookie Jed Lowrie who made a name for himself in the hearts of Red Sox Nation with his game winning RBI and the Red Sox look posed to make another World Series run. First they had to finish off their series with the Angeles. The Sox took an early 2-0 lead, before Torii Hunter tied things up with an RBI double in the eighth inning. A bizarre hit-and-run fumble by LA’s Reggie Willits ended the top of the ninth bringing in the Sox who were able to finish off the Halos without the luxury of extras thanks to that aforementioned game winning run hit by Lowrie in their 3-2 victory. Next up, the Rays, who are certainly not ready to hand the Red Sox the series.
