Keeping it Close

After allowing a passed ball that scored the go ahead run for the Milwaukee Brewers in the seventh inning, Brian McCann came back in the eighth inning with a double that scored three runs in the Atlanta Braves 9-3 win over the Brew Crew. Tim Hudson and Dave Bush had quite the pitchers duel going into the seventh with Hudson allowing just two runs and Bush allowing one. But it was Brewers relief pitching notably Derrick Turnbow that allowed the win to get away from the Brewers, who have now lost their last six series. The Braves get the day off before playing a three game series against the Chicago Cubs this weekend.

Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 4
Games above .500: 7
NL Wild Card Leader: Arizona Diamondbacks

Braves Notes: John Smoltz said he felt good during a game of catch on Wednesday. The 40 year old pitcher left the game early on Tuesday after tweaking his pinkie and shoulder. He should be able to make his next start...Rafael Soriano allowed just his second run in 16 innings, a solo shot by Prince Fielder in the eighth on Wednesday...Mike Gonzalez is scheduled to have Tommy John Surgery today. Mike will miss at least a year.

Giants Update:
Gee, haven't had one of these in a while. The Giants had an organized team practice on Wednesday and guess who were no-shows. Here's a hint, one loves America so much he wears it on his sleeve, literally and one can probably jump over the goal posts in the end zone without the aid of a trampoline. If you said Jeremy Shockey and Plaxico Buress, you'd be correct. They were joined with Michael Straham and Jim Finn on the did not report list. But about 84 other guys took time out of their busy lives to practice some football.

News & Notes: A photo of A-Rod and a whorish blonde was splashed across the New York Post on Wednesday. I'm not too sure his wife was super stoked with the pictures. It was a bad angle for Alex...The Minnesota Twins swept the Chicago White Sox after a 7-6 win on Wednesday. Both teams are fighting for a playoff spot in the tough AL Central...Si.com released the annual Fortunate 50, naming the top paid athletes in sports for 2006...ABC will broadcast the Scripts National Spelling Bee on Thursday starting at 8 PM/est. Let's hope nobody passes out from all the pressure...Finally, a Harry Porter theme park is in the works in where else, Orlando, FL. Kids will be able to "visit" Hogwarts starting in 2009. Take that Disney World!
