Back from the Midwest

Hi, all. I am back from the midwest and here to bring you all the news from the past few days. Check back later for things I learned posts from Miller Park and the Metrodome.

Baseball: I leave for a couple of days and David Wright and Hiroki Kuroda get beaned in the head. Luckily they've both been released from the hospital, but they'll be missing a lot of games recovering. Glad to see the Mets have learened their lesson after last year's Church debacle...Speaking of the Metsies, they pulled off a walk-off victory over the Giants, 3-2...Meanwhile the Dodgers hammered the D'Backs, 9-3...Ryan Howard's two homeruns and four RBIs were enough to power the Phillies past the Braves, 4-1...The Mariners avoided a sweep by the Yankees, 10-3...Derek Jeter's RBI double in the third inning allowed him to pass Luis Aparicio for the all-time hits leader by a short-stop...Also avoiding a sweep were the A's who topped the White Sox, 3-2 off of a Mark Ellis homerun...And the Astros who battled past the Brewers, 8-5...What has happened to the Red Sox? Their 4-3 loss to the Rangers dropped them from the Wild Card lead...The Red Sox may release John Smoltz on Monday...How bad is it when you head into the 13th inning tied at 8 and then lose 17-8? I don't know, you'd have to ask the Orioles...The Cardinals completed a three game sweep of the Padres after Colby Rasmus hit a two run homer in the ninth...It's not looking good for Stephen Strasburg if he had any hope of playing for the Nationals. Although maybe he's pulling this crap because he doesn't want to play for the Nationals and in that case, congrats on being an selfish moron.

Basketball: Quentin Richardson has been traded for the fourth time this offseason. Now he's calling Miami home. But I wouldn't go purchasing properties or frankly signing any leases just yet...The Mavs are not allowing Dirk Nowitzki to play in next month's European Championship.

Football: Cowboys receiver Roy Williams is day-to-day with a bad wrist...Mark Sanchez will start for the Jets in their next preseason game...In other former USC quarterbacks news, Matt Leinart's status as #2 QB could be in jeopardy...Saints kicker Garrett Hartley says he's ready for a four game ban once the season starts. Hartley tested positive for a stimulant (Adderall) which he claims he used to keep him awake while driving from Dallas to New Orleans. Uh-huh, I'd believe that if I didn't watch "True Life: I am addicted to Adderall"...Michael Vick says he cried a lot in prison. Yeah that seems about right...Michael Irvin was one of the stars named to the new cast of "Dancing with the Stars."

Hockey: Mark Messier has signed on to become a special assistant to Rangers GM Glen Sather. I am sure he'll learn a lot about paying too much for free agents and what not...A college hockey twinbill will follow the Winter Classic at Fenway Park. Boston College and Boston University men's teams will square off, as will the women's teams from Northeastern and New Hampshire...Sad news, Maple Leafs Hall of Famer Ted "Teeder" Kennedy has died. He was 83.

Nascar: Brian Vickers stretched his fuel just far enough to collect the checkers at Michigan this weekend. It was Vickers second career victory...Click here for full results...And here for updated standings...Dale Junior isn't in love with the way Nascar is sitting on its hands...Of course Mike Helton doesn't agree...Congrats to Brad Keselowski for winning the Nationwide Series event at Michigan...And to Brian Vickers and Kyle Busch for bringing their feud back.

Best of the Rest: Usain Bolt shattered the world record for 100 meters running it in 9.58 seconds...Congrats to Y.E. Yang on winning the 2009 PGA Championship. It appears Tiger Woods is indeed human...LA Galaxy forward Landon Donovan tested positive for Swine Flu. I don't want to say it's Karma for dissing David Beckham, but...Andy Murray defeated Juan Martin Del Potro 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-1 to take the Rogers Cup and possibly the No. 2 world ranking.

Check this Out: I just wanted to congratulate all who participated (especially my friends, family and co-workers) in the NYC Half-Marathon on Sunday. There is no way in hell I could run 13 miles and am in complete awe of all of you that did especially in that 90 degree heat.
