going against your own

Baseball: Manny Ramirez maybe very close to going back to LA. Funny how things work out...The Brewers have signed Yovani Gallardo to a one year deal...Johan Santana will not be the Mets Opening Day starter...The Red Sox are keeping a close eye on J.D. Drew and Brad Penny...A-Rod is scheduled to see a specialist in Colorado about a cyst on his hip...His Yankees teammate Derek Jeter had two hits in a game against the Yankees? Turns out it was the US vs. the Bombers...If given the opportunity, it seems Darryl Strawberry would have used steriods. Instead he just used cocaine. Trading one vice for another I guess...Calling all Orioles fans, the Baltimore team is giving away free tickets for your birthday. All you have to do is sign up!...And for those interested in single-game tickets for the Mets, April and May games will be put up ahead of the rest of the season. Click here for details.

Basketball: Chauncey Billups scored 34 points in his return to Detroit, but the Pistons had the upper hand, taking out the Nuggets, 100-95...The Magic topped the Suns, 111-99...The Rockets picked up their 10th home win in a row, knocking out the Raptors, 107-97...Joe Smith has agreed to terms with the Cleveland Cavaliers after being waived by the Thunder on Sunday.

College Basketball: Wake Forest narrowly avoided an upset, edging Maryland, 65-63...Michigan State beat Indiana, 64-59 to claim the Big Ten title...Duke held strong in their victory over Florida State, 84-81...The NCAA is investigating the Arizona basketball team for recruiting violations.

Football: Very sad news, the coast guard has given up a search for the remaining three men misssing in the Gulf of Mexico...Kurt Warner really wants to stay with the Cardinals. And who can blame him. They couldn't pay me enough to leave Arizona for the 49ers...Jim Leonhard has signed with the Jets...The Broncos will not trade QB Jay Cutler. Sure now that Matt Cassel is off the table...Giants GM Jerry Reese would be willing to take back Plaxico Burress if he resolves his legal issues and gets rid of the crazy. Somehow I don't think the Giants need to jump aboard this bad idea train.

Hockey: The Detroit Red Wings demolished the St. Louis Blues, 5-0, but not before Marion Hossa had to be taken off the ice on a gurney after a scary hit. These kinds of things concern me more than fighting...Marty Brodeur remained perfect in his first four games back as the Devils squashed the Leafs, 3-2 in OT. Marty you are my nemesis!...No Crosby no problem for the Penguins who got two goals from the newly acquired Chris Kunitz as they defeated the Lightning, 3-1...Martin Havlat's breakaway goal was the difference maker in the Blackhawks, 3-2 OT win over the Ducks...Simon Gagne had two goals and an assist in the Flyers 4-2 victory over the Bruins...A reminder the NHL trade deadline is today at 3 PM. I'll try to keep you all up to date with any big moves that happen throughout the day.

Nascar: 49 Cup teams are heading to Atlanta for this weekends race...Price Chopper and Kraft Foods have signed on as sponsors for Kansas Speedway's fall race...Kurt Busch is not jealous of his brother Kyle. And in other news, I can't stand either one of them.

Best of the Rest: Roger Federer will not compete for the Swiss in the Davis Cup.
