Broke Down Train

After an epic disaster that was my morning commute, I bring you the best of this morning’s news:

Baseball: Orlando Cabrera has landed in Oakland with a one year, $4 million contract...But can the A's get Nomar Garciaparra?...Good news on the injury front for a couple of teams including the Tigers's Jeremy Bonderman whose shoulder is fine...Josh Hamilton who should return to work on Wednesday...And Ken Griffey, Jr. who will be ready to go for his Mariners debut on Wednesday...While the Nats search for a new GM, team president Stan Kasten will take over the position vacated by Jim Bowden...Are the Marlins ever going to get a new ballpark?...Sad news, former Yankees pitcher Tom Sturdivant has died at the age of 78.

Basketball: Dwyane Wade's 41 points was not enough to out duel LeBron James's 42 points or the Cavs who beat the Heat, 107-100...Even without Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, the Thunder were able to push by the Mavs, 96-87...The Nuggets have suspended superstar Carmelo Anthony for one game for an "in-game transgression."

College Basketball: Villanova took out Notre Dame, 77-60...Congratulations to the UCONN women on finishing up the regular season with a perfect 30-0 record...Oh and the Men's team is #1 again.

Football: T.J. Houshmandzadeh has settled with the Seattle Seahawks...While Derek Ward is going to Tampa Bay...Could Kurt Warner be headed to San Francisco? I mean a physcial sounds like a pretty big step in negotiations...The Redskins have cut Jason Taylor making room for all of those high priced free agents they just signed...A former USF player Nick Schuyler was found on Monday but three others, including NFL players Marquis Cooper and Corey Smith and friend William Bleakley remain missing.

Hockey: In the only game on Monday night, the Islanders topped the Avalanche, 4-2. I think it's safe to say that the Avs are more than thrilled to get out of the NY tri-state area...The Devils have acquired D Niclas Havelid from the Thrashers for D Anssi Salmela...Stars forward Steve Ott was suspended one game for his eye gouging incident. He'll be eligible to play on Tuesday.

Nascar: The Nationwide Series will continue to race in Montreal for the next three years.

Best of the Rest: In an exhibition match between the sisters Williams held at MSG, Serena swept Venus, 6-4, 6-3...David Beckham maybe allowed to stay with Milan through the end of their season. Just let him stay there. His drawing power in America has dwindled and he clearly does not want to play here, so what's the point?

Check this out: After a 10 month hiatus, the CW's awesome show Reaper returns with all new episodes. If you are not familiar with the show (click here to watch episodes from season 1), it's about a kid named Sam whose parents sold his soul to the devil. On Sam's 21st birthday, the devil comes to collect his prize and forces Sam to help send rogue souls back to hell. It's funny and charming and a definite must-watch. So tune into the CW at 8 PM/est to catch the season premiere!
