Braves Update:
So the good news is, John Smoltz and Chipper Jones have kissed and made up after a misunderstanding between the players which was carried out in the press. The bad news, the Braves were swept...at home...by the Detroit Tigers after losing 5-0 on Sunday night. The Braves have score just one run, a homer by Chipper Jones, in the past five games. The Braves look to turn things around and maybe start scoring some runs against the Nationals on Monday. The game starts at 7:05 PM/est on SS. (May your bats be mighty and your pitches be good, because boys, we need a win!)
Games behind NY Mets in NL East: 4 1/2
Games above .500: --
NL Wild Card Leader: San Diego Padres
Braves Notes: After getting tossed on Saturday, Bobby Cox has tied John McGraw for first in all time ejections.
NASCAR Update:
After a flurry of fuel strategy, Juan Pablo Montaya was able to outlast the crowd and pick up his first ever Nextel Cup victory on Sunday in the SaveMart 350 at Sonoma.
Race Results Points Standings
Shout outs to: Richard Childress Racing for finishing in the second, third and fourth spots on Sunday.
NASCAR Notes: Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordon were not allowed to qualify after their cars failed inspection on Friday. Both teams made modifications to their cars and were able to practice on Saturday and race on Sunday. Expect both teams to receive heavy penalties...The record books may show that Aric Almirola picked up his first career Busch Series win on Saturday, but it was Denny Hamlin who actually crossed the start/finish line first in the #20 car. Aric started the race for a delayed Hamlin, but once his helicopter was able to land, Hamlin jumped into his Chevy and brought it home in first.
Popo in my crib news:
Police had to use a Taser gun to subdue Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Fred Evans early Saturday after he refuse to leave a taxi. Evans was charged with multiple counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest. Wacht out Fred, because the popo are on your tail!
News & Notes: Sad news, former major league all-star pitcher Rod Beck was found dead at his Phoenix area home on Saturday. He was only 38...Toronto Blue Jays starter, Dustin McGowan came within three outs of a no-hitter. He had to settle for a one hit shut out, in the Jays 5-0 win over the Colorado Rockies. Frank Thomas hit his 499th career homerun during the game...Ken Griffey, Jr. hit career homeruns 583 and 584 in the final game of his Seattle homecoming on Sunday to surpass Mark McGwire for seventh on the all time homerun list, but it wasn't enough as the Cincinnati Reds lost 3-2 to the Mariners...Congratulations to Oregon State on winning their second straight College World Series and more importantly, beating UNC two years in a row...Finally, you're two months are up, and apparently, you weren't very good at stalking Prince William, as the man second in line to the throne has reportedly gotten back together with ex Kate Middleton. The couple split in April after five years together. Kate and Wills are known to break up and get back together, so put down those pills, you might still have shot.
It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
