Deadlines


Baseball: Amazingly enough, there is actually bigger news than the impending trade deadline, turns out both David Ortiz and Manny Ramirez failed a random drug test in 2003. Excuse me while I pretend to be surprised...Back to the real news, could Victor Martinez be heading to Boston?...Speaking of the BoSox, they got a go ahead homerun from Ortiz to beat the A's, 8-5...Are the Twins working on a deal to bring Orlando Cabrera over from the A's?...The Dodgers picked up reliever George Sherrill from the Orioles for two minor leaguers...Then got a two run homer from Matt Kemp in the 10th to top the Cardinals, 5-3...In the grand tradition of trading everyone on your team, the Pirates have sent John Gabrow and Tom Gorzelanny to the Cubs for Kevin Hart and Jose Ascanio...Chicago was involved in another lopsided win over the Astros, 12-3...The Royals picked up Josh Anderson from the Tigers...In other Detroit news, Joel Zumaya is having season ending surgery again...DeWayne Wise takes his superhero powers to the plate, hitting a game-winning RBI single to give the White Sox a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Yankees...Also playing hero was the Braves' Brian McCann who hit a three run homer in the 10th allowing the Braves to avoid a sweep by the Marlins...Omar Minaya is sorry for being such an idiot and is hoping to keep his job Fred. (Don't listen to him Wilpons!)...The Mets split a doubleheader with the Rockies, taking the first game 7-0 before falling 4-2 in the night cap.

Basketball: Lamar Odom is staying in LA after all.

Football: The Raiders have agreed to a deal with Darrius Heyward-Bey...While the Rams signed Jason Smith...Michael Vick says he's close to signing with a team...Leon Washington was a no-show at Jets camp on Thursday, but is reportedly with the team as of their first practice...Get well wishes go out to Vikings defensive end Kenechi Udeze who at just the age of 26 has retired. Udeze is suffering from side effects from the treatement of his leukemia which he says is still in remission.

Hockey: Cablevision has voted to spinoff a separate company that would manage the Madison Square Garden business which includes the New York Rangers and Knicks as well as Madison Square Garden...Red Wings foward Jiri Hudler is heading to Russia to play in the KHL.

Nascar: Lowe's has decided not to renew its naming rights deal with Lowe's Motor Speedway, formerly known as Charlotte Motor Speedway...Good news for bargain hunters, Darlington is cutting prices for their 2010 Nascar race...The Ford Mustang is coming to the Nationwide Series in 2010.

Best of the Rest: It's getting fiesty in Rome as competitors Milorad Cavic and Michael Phelps continue their back and forth over a swinsuit...Two years after falling 40 feet, Jake Brown won gold in the Skateboard Big Air competition at the X-Games...Hawaii head coach Greg McMackin is sorry for making rude remarks towards Notre Dame...Brazilian popo have ruled Arturo Gatti's death a suicide...Sad news, former England soccer coach Bobby Robson has died. He was 76.
