The My Computer Wasn't Working This Morning Edition

Baseball Update:
Instant replay will make it's official debut on Thursday, beginning with series that begin on the 28th, replay will open up to the rest of the league on Friday.

Three important series began on Tuesday, including a tough battle between division rivals the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies. The Mets opened with a 7-0, but failed to score after the fourth inning, opening up the door for Chris Coste, who singled in the winning run for the Phillies in the bottom of the 13th inning. If this is a precursor for the rest of the year, the NL East is going to be a dog fight.

The Yankees, who are desperately trying to stay alive in the Wild Card, made it a little harder on themselves, falling to the Red Sox, 7-3. Alex Rodriguez was 0-for-5 with two strike outs and twice ground into a double play.

The Red Sox placed outfielder J.D. Drew on the 15 day DL with his lingering back problems. Boston may have picked up Atlanta outfielder Mark Kotsay to help alleviate the loss of Drew.

The Cardinals were hosting an important series as well. Going into Tuesday's game, St. Louis was sitting just 3.5 games behind the Brewers in the Wild Card...that was until they were absolutely shut down by Milwaukee ace Ben Sheets, who delivered six innings of no run ball. Ryan Braun was 3-for-5 with a two run homer while Prince Fielder added three hits and two RBIs in the Brew Crew's 12-0 pounding of the Cards.

Brandon Webb is stuck on win #19 after the Padres took care of the Diamondbacks, 9-3. Webb went just 4 and two thirds inning allowing six earned runs in the loss.

Meanwhile, Indians pitcher Cliff Lee matched Webb's Major League Best of 19 wins as the Tribe continue to plow through with their 9th straight win. Ben Francisco contributed two homeruns in Cleveland's 10-4 victory over the Tigers.

The Cubs have owned the Bucs this season, but their latest win took a big eighth inning rally to complete. Geovany Soto drove in 7 runs as the Cubs took out the Pirates, 14-9.

Colorado beat the Giants, 7-2 after starter Jorge De La Rosa was able to get out of early inning troubles and hold on for six innings. They stand just six games out of first in the West and after last season, they are figuring anything could happen. Maybe that's why they've placed closer Brian Fuentes and Willy Taveras on waivers.

The Braves were able to stage a late inning stunner, something they haven't been able to do all season and the Florida Marlins who are trying to hold onto their postseason hopes did not appreciate it. Yunel Escobar capped a four run ninth with a game winning single that gave Atlanta the 10-9 win. Wow, a late inning comeback and a one run win, that's practically unheard for Atlanta in 2008!

Good news for the Rays, third baseman Evan Longoria will resume hitting this week as a part of his rehab program. Longoria, who is recovering from a broken bone in his right wrist, hopes to be back with the team by September 1st. The Rays meanwhile, could have used his services as they fell to the Blue Jays, 6-2.

Nascar Update:
Casey Mears has bounced from car to car almost since he began with Ganassi in 2003. He's driven the #41, #41, #25 and #5 in the past four years and is hoping to just get some consistency when he moves over to Richard Childress Racing in 2009. Nascar.com sat down with the driver, click here for the interview.

It's official, Reed Sorenson has left Chip Ganassi and will be racing for Gillett Everham in 2009. The car number, sponsor and crew chief details, well that's all TBD.

The Budweiser Shootout at Daytona will be around for the next three years, but there will be some changes to the event.

Jeff Gordon's frightening crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway has prompted the track to add a new SAFER Barrier along the inside wall on the back straightaway. It's always nice to see that Nascar and its tracks continue to improve safety measures.

News&Notes: Derrick Harvey has ended his hold out with the Jaguars, signing a five year contract worth $30 million...Sad news, former Trail Blazer Kevin Duckworth has died. He was only 44...My well wishes go out to former NBA players Wayman Tisdale who lost part of his leg to bone cancer...Ana Ivanovic rebounded from an early scare with a 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 defeat of Vera Dushevina. Roger Federer and Serena Williams also advanced out of the first round of the US Open.

Check this out: You know I love this, BetUS.com is putting odds on which NFL player will be arrested first. (via The Sporting News Blog) I'm going Pacman Jones but like most procedural crime shows its never the most obvious person who gets arrested.

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
