Inter-office scuffle

Baseball Update:

There may have been more action in the dugout than on the field during the Reds 6-3 win over the Brewers. Milwaukee teammates Manny Parra and Prince Fielder got into a heated shoving match in the dugout and had to be restrained by their teammates. Oh how I enjoy waking up to the sight of a nice little toussel in the morning.

Rain and poor pitching by Ryan Dempster sunk the Cubs in their 2-0 loss to the Astros. The game was stopped in the sixth inning for over two hours as a storm drenched Wrigley Field. The game continued for another 50 minutes before another bout with Mother Nature put an end to the game in the eighth inning.

Good news for the Cubs, Kerry Wood will come off the DL in the next couple of days. Wood had been waging a losing battle with a blister.

A clean shaven Jason Giambi went 3-for-4 with a homerun, but his valient performance was overshadowed by Marlon Byrd's walk off grand slam that gave the Rangers a 9-5 victory. Joba Chamberlain left the mound in the fifth with a stiff shoulder.

The Yankees weren't the only AL East team having a bad night, as the Red Sox fell to the Royals, 4-3 and the Rays lost the Indians, 5-2. The Tribe remain undefeated against the Rays this season, while Cleveland pitcher Cliff Lee picked up his 15th win of the season.

Speaking of the Rays, two of their minor leaguers, Cesar Guillen and Victor Henriquez have been suspended 50 games for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs.

The Orioles tied the Angels in the ninth with a four run rally, but closer George Sherrill blew the save, walking Chone Figgins to force in the winning run as LA strolled past Baltimore, 6-5.

The Blue Jays were the lone winner in their division when they handed the A's their seventh straight loss, 6-1.

The Mariners scored 10 runs in the one inning on their way to beating the Twins, 11-6. Raul Ibanez drove in six runs including a grand slam in the seventh for Seattle.

The Giants held a moment of silence in honor of the late Braves broadcaster Skip Caray who died on Sunday prior to the start of their game against the Braves. Then they got down to business, easily handing Atlanta a 4-2 defeat.. Matt Cain didn't allow a runner past second until the sixth inning in just his seventh win of the season.

The Braves placed reliever Rafael Soriano on the 15 day DL with an inflamed right elbow. This is the third time he has been placed on the DL this season. The Braves aren't going anywhere this season. Can't they just shut him down and save him for next year when they could actually contend for something?

With Billy Wagner undergoing his second MRI and the Mets bullpen in shambles, New York may call up relief prospect Eddie Kunz. The Metsies placed starter John Maine on the DL with a slight strain in his right rotator cuff.

MLB is reportedly investigating some Yankees scouts who may have been skimming bonuses from prospects in the Dominican Republic.

Check back for more news later in the day...

It's been fun blogging with you,
Kate
