August 7, 2006

This weekend just flew right by. I did little to nothing, and that was just what I needed.

Braves Update:
The Braves pulled off a surprise victory against the Cincinnati Reds, preventing the sweep yesterday. Twice during this game, the Braves ended the inning with runners in scoring position and a zero in the runs column for the inning. Going into the 8th, the Bravos were down 4-2, but that all changed. Both Andruw Jones and Brian McCann singled bringing up a slumping Jeff Francoeur. Frenchy was able to knock in two runs with a triple, tying the game at four a piece. Adam LaRoche brought Frenchy home with a sacrifice fly and Matt Diaz added a solo homer for good measure. Prior to the game, third baseman, Chipper Jones said that the Braves would have to play .700 to .750 ball the rest of the way through if they had any hope of making it to the playoffs, hopefully with this win the Braves will be able to go on a tear. The Braves take on the Phillies at Turner Field tonight at 7:05 on TS.

In other Braves news, Andruw Jones was hurt that he was not notified ahead of time that he would be placed on the waiver wire. Jones was 10 days shy of 10 years of service in the majors and unable to veto a trade. He has subsequently been taken off.

Games to .500: 8
Games behind Cincinnati Reds: 5.5
Games behind New York Mets: 15

Charting Chase: Chultey went hitless on Friday against the Mets and ended his hit streak at 35 ranking 8th all time and tying for first all time for a second baseman. (This also ends my non-Braves baseball updates...for now.)

NASCAR Update:
NASCAR invaded Indy this weekend. I’ll admit this race was a bit of a snooze fest. The lone excitement came after the final caution, but the field spread out too much, and produced a lack luster finish. Elliot Sadler continued his struggles exiting early in the race and finishing 43rd, at least it wasn’t Junior this week (he finished 6th). Jeff Gordon faced some early trials when a bolt holding the sway bar came loose, he went three laps down before landing on the lead lap and finishing 16th. His teammate, Jimmie Johnson blew a left front tire but was able to rally and win the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Congratulations go out to Mr. Johnson, after winning the Daytona 500 earlier this season and now the Brickyard, I think he’s had enough success for the season and should now just bow out gracefully and allow someone else, say Dale Jr. (pipe dream) or Jeff Burton (a bit more realistic) to win the Championship.

In other news: Jeremy Mayfield “doubts” he’ll be back at Evernham Motorsports next year. Rumors have him going to Bill Davis Racing in 2007. After Mayfield’s 41st finish yesterday, he has dropped out of the top 35 in points and is not locked in for this week’s race at Watkins Glen.

Dale, a documentary style film following the life of seven time Cup champion, Dale Earnhardt, featuring never before seen interviews will premiere in February 2007. (Can’t wait, hope it’s better than 3!)

This just in, Tony Stewart and Carl Edwards do not get along. Tony called Carl "Eddie Haskel," a refrence I'm pretty sure went over Edwards' head because when he heard that Carl just called Tony a "moron." Take that weird pop culture refrence from before I was born! I guess Carl wouldn't do that well on the World Series of Pop Culture.

Giants News:
Giants TE Jeremy Shockey practiced for the first time since Monday’s concussion incident, this weekend. He says he’s feeling much better and managed to catch two passes in practice and didn’t even yell at Manning, “I’m open ass, wide open. Throw the damn ball to ME!”

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Lindsay Lohan was upset that people were taking her picture. When you eat at the Ivy in LA you know there are going to be photogs there. That’s where you go to prove that you’re not dead, in a comma, or suffering from “heat exhaustion.”

Talladega Nights: the Ballad of Ricky Bobby was first at the box office this weekend taking in $47 million. I saw this movie, it was super funny and I loved it. Everyone is really good in it, including Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly and especially Gary Cole, who plays Ricky Bobby’s dad. It also features three Earnhardts. The first is a very funny cameo with Dale Jr., then look for a cardboard cutout of Dale Sr. and finally Kerry and his Cup team are parked next to Ricky Bobby’s team at Talladega. You’ll have to really look for him, but he’s there.

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
