August 10, 2006

So last night I took it easy. I headed over to the gym where I bumped into Niki and about half the people I went to high school with as usual. I then had dinner and watched Rock Star: Supernova. I thought all of the performances were good last night. After Ryan’s performance, I felt that he proved that he belonged and really blew Jill and Josh out of the water. I felt like Josh was really great, but he is totally not meant for Supernova. Jill has had too much plastic surgery and I’m sorry, wasn’t she on Married by America? In a surprise vote, both Jill and Josh were sent packing and the rest of the contestants headed off to Vegas.

Braves Update:
Once again, the Braves got bit by one bad inning. This time it was the 7th, where the Phillies scored 8 runs. The Braves were leading 3-1 at the time but lost 9-3. Andruw Jones continued his hot streak by hitting another homerun, his 28th of the season. Jeff Francoeur drove in a run in the 6th, but after that inning, the Braves offense shut down. Chuck James had a great game allowing only one run and left after the 6th with the win in hand, but the Braves bullpen managed to give another game away. The pitching has continued to be a hole on the Braves team. It seems when the starting pitching is on the bullpen is off and vice versa. The Braves have a much needed day off and will resume play on Friday opening up a series with the Brewers at home.

Games to .500: 9
Games behind Cincinnati Reds: 6.5
Games behind New York Mets: 16

Adam LaRoche once again was out of the line with a sore left arm...The Braves will be calling up Kevin Barry and Lance Cormier from Class AAA Richmond to make relief starts for John Thomson and Horacio Ramirez who are both currently on the DL.

Random Quote: “They told me there’s a Bass Pro Shop right across the street [in Mississippi]…I’ll be there until 3 o’clock. Come get me when the team meeting starts.” -Chipper Jones on his rehab starts with Class AA Mississippi (ajc.com)

NASCAR Update:
Reminder: Dale Jr. will be on the Daily Show tonight at 11PM on Comedy Central.

Mark McFarland, driver of the #88 Navy Chevrolet for JR Motorsports has been released. He will be replaced by Nextel Cup Driver and two time Busch Series Champ, Martin Truex, Jr. for the Watkins Glen race this weekend.

Todd Parrott will be returning to Robert Yates Racing. He was crew chief of the #43 Cheerios Dodge at Petty Enterprises currently driven by Bobby Labonte. Due to his exit, Greg Steadman will be taking over crew chief duties for the #43 this week.

Ricky Bobby goodies are up for sale on ebay. They include prop cars, drivers’ suits, and Ricky Bobby’s wife, Shannon’s St. John’s suit.

Giants Update:
LaVar Arrington will not play in the preseason game against Baltimore. He has been suffering from knee problems but states that the injuries are not serious and that he’ll be ready to go when the Giants take on the Colts in what I like to refer to as Manning Bowl! (If anyone has tickets or knows of anyone who has tickets to this game and does not want to go and/or has extra tickets, I’m always up for a game, especially Manning v. Manning!)
Also missing the game against the Ravens are Jeremy Shockey, Sinorice Moss, Carlos Emmons, and Chris Snee.

Eli Manning, Tim Hasselback and Jared Lorenzen are the listed as the quarterbacks in the game against Baltimore. Tim Johnson will get an opportunity to play in next week’s game against the Chiefs.

From si.com’s Ten Spot: “A valid question from reader Brooks of Evanston, Ill.: ‘Who is more likely to hold out longer, Paris Hilton or Matt Leinart?’” My money is on Leinart!

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Reminder: The new Kenny Chesney video for “You Save Me” is up in it's entirety on cmt.com.

Katrina Elam is the new opening act for Rascal Flatts on their Me and My Gang tour. Her first performance was August 5th. She previously toured with Keith Urban. I saw her open for Urban the night the Red Sox won the World Series at the Beacon Theater in New York. She has an amazing voice. Her first album, which I loved, included her hit, “No End in Sight.” Her second album is due to hit stores soon and includes the single, “Love Is.” She’s another artist like Julie Roberts, that I can’t understand why she isn’t more famous.

Heather Locklear will be featured in Toby Keith’s new video “Crash Here Tonight.” This song is from the soundtrack to his upcoming movie, Broken Bridges.

Star Jones was voted the most unfavorably viewed TV personality in America. I just don’t know why. Maybe it was her persistent plugging of her wedding which reportedly is heading towards divorce, her inexplicable weight loss, which obviously came from the aid of a scalpel, or her self centered behavior on “The View” and the E! Red Carpet specials? It’s just so hard to tell.

Jordan Knight and Debbie Gibson sang a duet at the Cutting Room. I hope they make an album together. It will fulfill my dreams, well my dreams when I was about 5 years old.

Alfonso Ribiero aka Carlton from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” filed for divorce from his wife Robin Stapler. The couple has been married for four years and has a three year old daughter, Sienna.

News from All Around:
Sad news, four penguins were killed when their truck overturned on a Texas highway. The penguins were traveling to a temporary location south of Houston. Three penguins were tragically struck by cars as the tried to escape. The rest huddled in a ditch until they were rescued.

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
