August 15, 2006

Last night, I enjoyed a quite evening filled with Asian Grill food and the viewing of the Mets getting spanked by the Phillies. What can I say; the Braves weren’t on TBS so I could watch Chipper hit three homers! (More on that in the Braves update.) I have to say, I’m loving the creative fans in Philly. They had Rowand’s Romans. A bunch of girls dressed up in togas with white tape across their noses and black eye make up to look like they had a broken nose. There was the Cole Patrol (formerly the Cole Mine), who wore police hats and Delucci’s 2 groupies. Do they compare with McCann’s Cans, Francoeur’s Franks, or Edgar’s Eggs, of course not! But I like seeing people enjoying themselves at baseball games. I feel like, sometimes the media and just regular people like to get hung up on the negative, steroids, cheating husbands (more Lo Duca news towards the bottom of today’s post), etc… But at the end of the day, going to a baseball game, is a fun way to hang out with some friends or family, where you can talk, have some good food (unless your stuck at Shea Stadium, then it’s best to bring some good food), and watch one of the greatest sports in the US!

Braves update:
The Bravos flexed some serious offensive muscle beating the Nationals 10-4. Chipper Jones, on his second outing since coming off the disabled list, hit three homeruns in three consecutive at bats. This is the first time in his professional career that he has done that and the first time since Andruw Jones did it in 2002, that a Brave has hit three homers in one game. Matt Diaz tied a national league record by getting 10 consecutive hits. This is the first time some has done this since 1992. Matty is really proving himself day in and day out as a consistent offensive player and is getting better in left field. Watch out Ryan Langerhans! Chuck James gave up just two earned runs for the win. The Braves continue their series against the Nationals tonight at 7:05 on TS.

Games to .500: 7
Games behind Cincinnati Reds: 5.5
Games behind New York Mets: 16

Random Quote: “The bat died a hero...” – Matt Diaz on his final at bat during his hitting streak.

NASCAR Update:
Congratulations to Kevin Harvick for winning at Watkins Glen this weekend. I’m sure he couldn’t have scripted it any better. He won…Kurt Busch, who at the time was leading the race and was penalized for entering the pits too soon sending him to the tail end of the longest line. On lap 54, Busch was on the access road when the flashing lights (that indict whether pit road is open) changed to red. He was only a few feet away from the commitment cone and really did not have any other option than to cross the line and pit. If he swerved, he could have hit pit wall or another car, and if he suddenly stopped he could have been rear ended by other car. He drove down pit road and was serviced by his crew. Busch was penalized and sent to the back of the line. He wound up 19th after a late race spin. Boris Said and Ron Fellows were penalized for missing the bus stop and not returning to the position they were in prior to entering the bus stop. They finished the race inside the top ten but were assessed 30 second penalties placing them in the 30s in for the official results.

David Gilliland might be in the #38 for RYR as early as this weekend at Michigan. He must decide if he is willing to forego his rookie status next season. A driver is considered a rookie if they drive in 7 races or less the year before. He would be in 13 races if he starts this weekend. The race’s entry list has Elliot Sadler’s name listed as the driver for the #38. Other rumors invlove Jeremy Mayfield, recenlty fired from EMS taking over the #38 for the rest of the year, with Gilliland jumping into the #38 next year. Elliot Sadler taking over the #19 sometime this season, since he has supposedly cleaned out his locker at RYR. I guess the anwers will begin to reveal themselves this week.

(Some people wonder how I decide who’s still in the chase and who should be looking towards next year, I go by Matt Kenseth last year. At this point last year he was 165 points out of 10th and he was still able to make the chase. So I figure that Kurt Busch who is 177 points out could in theory make the chase if something happens to a driver in front of him. Plus I really don’t want it just be 11 guys who could make the chase, that’s so boring, but I really doubt that Kurt will make it after Sunday’s race.)

Giants Update:
So on Friday, I forgot that I was reading Thursday’s training camp blog, thus meaning the G-men were leaving for Baltimore on Thursday and that the game was on Friday. I hope I didn’t confuse anyone. I just happened upon the game only a few minutes into it on Friday. The Giants won 17-16! If only the preseason counted for something. Like an extra coin toss. Haha

Tiki Barber, Michael Straham and Jeremy Shockey are expected to play Thursday in their preseason debuts against the Chiefs.

In other sports news:
Well, I guess Paul Lo Duca likes them young. Another 19 year old has come out of the wood work alleging an affair with the Mets’ All Star backstop. Christina Alisio of Philadelphia said that she met Lo Duca at a gambling hall where she worked. He bet $300 on a horse race and then passed his cell phone number along to her. Against her better judgment, she called the number and met up with him after a game against the Phillies last year. They met multiple times throughout the year, well when the Marlins (his old team) and the Mets came to town. Alisio was upset to hear that Lo Duca had also been dating Krista Guterman, the Long Island teen he met earlier this year. So from this confession we have confirmed both the adultery and gambling rumors and have learned that he likes them fresh out of high school!

Around the world:
Apparently there are more fat people than thin. In a new study, throughout the world, obese people outnumber undernourished people. There are about 1 billion people that are over 30% larger than their ideal weight for their height, while only 800 million people are starving. I was thinking…can the fat that is lippoed out be transferred to the undernourished or is that just wrong?

With the new regulations about carry on luggage after the Brits foiled a major plot to blow up airplanes departing from England on their way to the United States, I found this quote to sum up my feelings best: “I say ban all carry-on luggage. It’s about time! And if you are so important that you cannot be away from your computer for a day, do us all a favor and stay at your office!”David Gregory via usatoday.com

Celebrity Tid Bits:
The big celebrity news today is that after almost six years together, Kate Hudson and Chris Robinson are splitting up. The couple has a two year old son, Ryder Russell Robinson. I was shocked to hear this news myself. I really thought that they would be together forever, but I guess six years in hollywood is practically forever.

Sugarland’s new album, Enjoy the Ride will be riding into stores near you on November 17th. This album features their new single, “Want to.”

Meanwhile, Dierks Bentley’s new album has been pushed up from its’ original release date of October 31st to October 17th.

Sara Evans has been confirmed as one of the newest cast members of “Dancing with the Stars.” She will be joined by soon to be Travis Barker ex, Shana Moakler, Harry Hamlin, Emmitt Smith, and my favorite Tucker Carlson. Do you think he’ll be wearing a bow tie throughout the competition? Let’s go Sara!

American Idol rolled its’ auditions into the Garden State yesterday. Congrats to all of Jersey’s finest that have moved into the next round. I’m hoping this year’s idol comes from New Jersey and proves that we are a talent filled state, not that Bon Jovi doesn’t do their part, but all the idols have come from the south save Carrie, but she’s from Oklahoma, so that’s a fly over state, but still not as cool as NJ!

Niki and I went to Serendipity's on Friday and here's a picture:

The food was super yummy as always and we both devoured it!

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
