Philadelphia Phillies v. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Phillies will host the Dodgers in the first game of the National League Championship Series on Thursday with Cole Hamels taking the mound for the Phils while Derek Lowe will start for LA. Both pitchers were very impressive in their Division series starts with Hamels holding the Brewers scoreless over eight innings while Lowe gave up a two run homer to Mark DeRosa in the second inning and then held the Cubs scoreless over the next four.
This will be the first NLCS appearance for the Phillies since they lost in the World Series in 1993 and the first for the Dodgers since they won the World Series in 1988 making both teams incredibly hungry for a title.
First Pitch: Thursday, 8:22 PM/est on FOX
Tampa Bay Rays v. Boston Red Sox
If ever there was a team coming into the playoffs this season that was not frightened by the Red Sox it would be the Rays. They’ve already established more experience doesn’t equal a series win by easily handling a veteran Chicago White Sox team, but the Red Sox aren’t willing to slide the slipper onto the Rays foot, just yet. They’ll bring Dice-K Matsuzaka to the mound who was 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA in the regular season, but has proven to be hittable in the postseason. Meanwhile the Rays have James Shields starting Game 1 once again. Shields was able to hold the White Sox to just three runs in six and third innings to give the Rays their first ever post season win.
Even though the Red Sox are you’re defending World Series Champions, they are not willing to rest on their laurels and allow the Rays to take the American League spot in the World Series. The two teams have quite a rivalry building and this series could get very WWE if given the opportunity.
