Division Series Recap:
Tampa Bay Rays v. Chicago White Sox
Experience is wildly touted as a huge advantage in playoff games. But the White Sox had that and they still could not contain Evan Longoria who hit a homerun during his first postseason at bat and followed that up with another homerun and an RBI to help give the Rays the 6-3 advantage.
WP: James Shields (1-0) LP: Javier Vazquez (0-1) SV: Dan Wheeler
Rays Lead Series: 1-0
Philadelphia Phillies v. Milwaukee Brewers
The thing about the Phillies is that they never give up. Chase Utley and Ryan Howard combined to go 0-for-7 with six strike outs and yet it was fan favorite Shane Victorino that knocked a monster grand slam in the second inning to give the Phillies the 5-1 advantage, erasing Brett Myers early struggles in the first. Myers corrected himself, allowing just one more run over six innings in the Phillies 5-2 victory. It is the first time the Phillies have started a series 2-0 since 1980.
WP: Brett Myers (1-0) LP: CC Sabathia (0-1) S: Brad Lidge (2)
Phillies Lead Series: 2-0
Chicago Cubs v. Los Angeles Dodgers
The Cubs sure picked a crappy time to play their two worst games of the season was the sentiment expressed by Sweet Lou. And boy is he right. The Cubs committed four errors including a Mark DeRosa bobble that prolonged what became a five run second inning and eventually placed the Cubs in a 0-2 hole with their 10-3 loss. Russell Martin hit a bases clearing double in the famed second inning which gives LA an opportunity to close up things at home this weekend.
WP: Chad Billingsley (1-0) LP: Carlos Zambrano (0-1)
Dodgers Lead Series: 2-0
