Champagne Showers and World Series Dreams: LCS 2008 Update
LSC Recap:
Tampa Bay Rays v. Boston Red Sox
Dustin Pedroia rocketed a homer off of Matt Garza in the first inning, but that was all of the offense the Red Sox could provide as Garza dazzled over seven innings and David Price picked up his first career save in the Rays 3-1 victory. Evan Longoria tied the game at one a piece with a double that scored Carlos Pena, followed an inning later by a Rocco Baldelli single which brought home Willy Aybar and gave the Rays their first lead of the game. Aybar added an insurance run in the seventh with a solo shot and the Rays bullpen did the rest, sending Tampa Bay to their franchise first World Series appearance. I can hear Dick Vitale now, “It’s awesome baby with a capital A.”
WP: Matt Garza (2-0) LP: Jon Lester (0-2) S: David Price (1)
Rays Win Series: 4-3
News&Notes: Congratulations to Matt Garza, who was named ALCS MVP...The Brewers are willing to pay for CC Sabathia, but unfortunately, the Yankees are willing to overpay for him...And probably Mark Teixeira, too...It's safe to say Joba Chamberlain has had better Saturday nights...The Yankees picked a crappy time to try to sell of relics of Yankee Stadium...Josh Hamilton has chronicled his amazing and somewhat sad story in a new book called "Beyond Belief."...Scott Boras won a $550,000 decision against Gary Sheffield...And finally, TBS is blaming equipment problems for the delay in broadcasting Game 6 of the ALCS.
