Baseball: The Dodgers signed Guillermo Mota to a one year dea. Why any team would pay for his services post-steriod use is beyond me, but whatever...The Padres inked RHP Mark Prior and infielder Chris Burke...While the Mets picked up infielder Alex Cora with a two year deal...The Orioles signed Japanese pitcher Koji Uehara to a two year, $10 million contract...The Angels are not eyeing a trade with Chicago to bring Jermaine Dye over for Chone Figgins...The city of Anaheim has dropped its legal challenge to the name the Angels...Sad news, former Padres Manager Preston Gomez has passed away at the age of 85.

Basketball: The Orlando Magic set a three point record, draining 23 as they rolled to a 139-107 victory over the Kings...Dirk Nowitzki had 44 points as the Mavs edged the Nuggets, 99-97...Kobe Bryant's 3 pointer late in the game helped the Lakers capture a 105-100 win over the Rockets...Ron Artest will remain out for at least another week with an ankle sprain...The NBA will not fine the Blazers for threatening other teams.

College Basketball: Jodie Meeks scored a school high 54 points in Kentucky's 90-72 victory over Tennessee.


Football: Scott Pioli will be the Chiefs new GM...Jim Caldwell is ready to take over the Colts. And he also hopes to avoid those beer commercials...Former 49ers head coach Mike Nolan has been named the Broncos defensive coordinator...Steelers safety Troy Polamalu will play on Sunday but he is expected to pace himself.



Hockey: Nigel Dawes scored the game winner off of a beautiful pass by Ryan Callahan in the Rangers 2-1 defeat of the Islanders...Here's one thing I learned while watching that game, the Islanders maybe running out of goalies...Meanwhile the Rangers and Nikolai Zherdev are working on a contract extension...Five different Devils scored as the routed the Canucks, 5-3. A feat the Vancouver fans apparently weren't too thrilled with...The Penguins ended the Flyers 8 game home win streak, 4-2...The Bruins topped the Canadiens, 3-1...Is Vinny Lecavalier heading out of Tampa Bay?...And where has the love between Evgeni Malkin and Alexander Ovchekin gone?
