USC is willing to forfeit two of its timeouts in Saturday’s showdown with UCLA just so they can wear red jerseys during the game at the Rose Bowl. You see the NCAA has this silly little rule that requires all away teams to wear white jerseys. But there’s some sort of tradition between the two teams that Pete Carroll has decided he wants to evoke despite the timeout penalties. (Apparently in 1982 when both teams were occupying the Los Angeles Coliseum, they both wore their home jerseys.)
Everything seems like a great idea until there’s a minute left and you’re trying to make a run down the field to score the game winning touchdown and that timeout you forfeited would have made the difference. Here’s hoping for a blowout. (Note: I didn’t make a distinction between which team should be doing the ass kicking.)
