And while Mayor Bloomberg was screaming equality for all and denouncing those who felt their celebrity provided them with their own set of laws, just an arms length away, Bloomberg’s aides were more than happy to create their own set of standards. According to reports, his aide’s were making backroom deals to ensure a suite at both the New Yankee Stadium and CitiField.
“Recently released internal e-mails between the mayor's aides, city lawyers and Yankees officials show that City Hall gave the team even more parking spaces than had been negotiated previously, plus the rights and revenue from three billboards near the stadium in exchange for a suite.”
But apparently the suite was sans free food which ticked off staffers who argued that if other boxes got free food, they should as well. The only difference being that those people were paying for the boxes with money not gifts from the city. Maybe you should have thrown in rights to a percentage of subway sales from the 161st subway entrance because the MTA isn’t having any financial difficulties. (Sarcasm people, I know it’s hard to read)
Meanwhile the exact details of the Mets suite are less clear. They received a box close to the third baseline, but what was given up in exchange was not explicitly expressed in the emails.
One thing is for sure, while the City’s residence continue to face tough economic times, it’s nice to know that the government that is meant to protect them is living such a fabulous life.
