Surprise, surprise

The Mets have announced that they will not be changing the name of their new ballpark to Citi/Taxpayer Field, but instead will be sticking with CitiField. Gee, I didn’t see that one coming. It’s funny that everyone bashed Citi and cried foul by naming the ballpark after the mega corporation, which is getting a bailout from the government. Why doesn’t anyone demand that Stadiums that are built entirely with taxpayer money be named Taxpayer Field or Taxpayer Arena? Or who needs new books in our schools when we have a place for the Devils to play hockey in downtown Newark? I’d much prefer the New Jersey Giants Stadium over whatever non-Nazi corp wins those naming rights. (And fine, the Giants are paying for the Stadium itself while New Jersey is paying for expanded infrastructure around the site, which is desperately needed, but still I would enjoy a little Jersey recognition from the team.) But alas, it’s not ever going to happen. It’s a fact of sports and this crazy capitalist system we’ve got going and frankly, I’m in no mood to start taking a stand by not attending sporting events. You suffer for your morals. Actually, why don't you suffer for the both of us!
