Texas Plates

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. Tonight I’m heading out to the Lone Star state so I won’t be posting until Monday. Here’s a look at the last few days:

NASCAR Update:
This past weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway was the first time that all three series had a repeat winner; Mike Skinner in the Craftsman Truck Series, Jeff Burton in the Busch Series and Jimmie Johnson in the Nextel Cup Series.

AT&T has sued NASCAR over its difficulty in replacing Cingular on the hood of the #31 car driven by Jeff Burton. Cingular and AT&T officially merged on December 29th. Cingular was allowed to remain the sponsor of the #31 car due to a grandfather clause when Nextel retained naming rights to the Cup Series. (jayski.com)

Baseball
San Diego Padres pitcher David Wells has been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Wells will continue to play for the Padres while adjusting his eating habits to manage his diabetes. (AP)

Bruce Drennan received a second chance from the Cleveland Indians. Drennan, fresh out of prison for tax fraud, has been given hosting duties on a new show “All Bets are Off with Bruce Drennan.” (AP)

Manny Ramirez is auctioning off his Jenn-Air grill on eBay. As an added bonus, the winning bidder will get an autographed baseball. How sweet of you, Manny. (AP)

College Basketball
It took four overtimes for Concordia to beat Robert Morris 124-119 in the NAIA semifinals on Monday. (AP)

Thumbelina, the world’s smallest horse, is trying to raise $1 million for children’s charities. She will be on a 48 state tour visiting children’s hospitals, state fairs, schools and summer camps. (AP)

Apple, Inc. has shipped its new Apple TV to stores. Apple TV takes saved music and video from your computer and allows it to be shown on your TV. The box can store up to 50 hours of video or 9,000 songs or 25,000 pictures and costs $299. (Reuters)

Paul Trinder got quite a surprise after awaking in his first class seat: a dead body. It seems a woman had died in economy class during the flight. She and her grieving family were brought into first class. British Airways estimates about 10 passengers die on board their planes a year. (AP)

During a recent auction, homes in Detroit were selling for less than the average price of a car made in the Motor City, $29,000. This included a bungalow for $1,300 and a four bedroom home for $7,000. Detroit leads the nation in foreclosures. (Reuters)

Lord Spencer, Princess Diana’s brother, visited a Cleveland exhibit which featured 28 dresses, suits and gowns. The exhibit runs through June 10th. (AP)

Elaine and Harold Messner, a retired New Jersey couple, are the second half of the $390 million mega millions jackpot. The Messners chose a lump sum payout worth $116,557,083 before federal taxes.

In ways to get fired news…A computer technician reformatting a disk drive wiped out a data file and its back up disk. The file contained information on a State Fund which pays dividends to Alaskans for oil revenue. It took 70 people six weeks to reenter the lost data and cost the state $220,000. (cnn.com)

Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter punched NFL rival and Cincinnati Bengal Levi Jones at a blackjack table in Las Vegas. Porter is facing a misdemeanor battery charge. Watch out Joey, because the popo are on your tail! (AP)

Mexican Federal Agents nabbed $205.6 million from a luxury home. It is the largest drug money seizure ever! Watch out drug lords, because the popo are on your tail! (AP)

Oseas Mendoza-Cecena, 82, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for smuggling 170 pounds of cocaine into the U.S. with the intent to sell. Watch out Oseas, because the popo are on your tail! (AP)

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Britney Spears has left promises rehab center after completing treatment one day before FedEx’s 29th birthday. For the sake of her two children, I hope she’ll be able to overcome her problems.

The Bay City Rollers, your favorite boy band in plaid, are suing Arista Records for withholding millions in royalties over the past 25 years. (AP)
