Ouch

On my way back from lunch, I walked past Darrell Hammond, of "Saturday Night Live" fame. He was talking to himself. I kind of wanted him to burst into his Chris Matthews impression. It always makes me laugh.

Braves Update:
Lance Cormier left Monday’s game against the Houston Astros in the second inning with shoulder stiffness. Cormier threw 19 pitches, 11 for strikes. (atlantabraves.com)

NASCAR Update:
Jimmie and Chandra Johnson will join the Petty family at the grand opening of the Victory Junction Bowling Alley on March 29th. (jayski.com)

Brian Vickers is quite a trooper. The 23 year old suffered first and second degree burns to his bottom and feet during the Bristol race on Sunday. Vickers reported to his crew that fumes were entering the cockpit about halfway through the Food City 500 but continued on to a 15th place, lead lap finish. It was later discovered that a section of the exhaust pipe located under his seat had separated. (jayski.com)

Giants Update:
The Giants have signed linebacker Kawika Mitchell to a one year, $1 million contract on Tuesday.

Around Sports:
Baseball
Mets reliever Duaner Sanchez is expected to be out until August with a hairline fracture to the front of his shoulder. The injury appears to be a result of a July 31st taxi cab accident where Sanchez’s shoulder was separated and could have weakened the coracoids bone. (espn.com)

Danny Almonte, who is best known for his outstanding performance in the 2001 Little League World Series, has signed with the Southern Illinois Miners of the Frontier League. Almonte was 14 years old during the LLWS, two years older than the maximum age requirement of 12 years old. (espn.com)

The San Diego Padres are expected to release Todd Walker after a poor spring training. The Padres will owe Walker $971,311 in termination pay. (AP)

Basketball
Rasheed Wallace’s miracle 60 foot shot sent the Detroit Pistons’ game against the Denver Nuggets to overtime. The Pistons went on to win it 113-109.

College Basketball
The first two teams have made it to the lady’s final four, LSU and Rutgers. Mississippi goes against Tennessee at 7 PM/est and Purdue takes on North Carolina at 9 PM/est to decide the remaining spots. (espn.com)

Swimming
Four world records fell Tuesday at the World Championships in Australia. Among the records broken was Ian Thorpe’s 200 meters freestyle which was crushed by American Michael Phelps. (Reuters)

Tony Snow is facing a bigger battle than dealing with the media today. Snow’s cancer has returned. The White House Spokesman underwent treatment for colon cancer in 2005. (AP)



A “monster toad” was captured in Australia. The toad, which is the size of a small dog, weighed two pounds and is 15 inches long. (AP)

Researchers at the University of Alabama, Birmingham have discovered that chemicals in grape seed may help to prevent skin cancer caused by exposure to the sun. (Reuters)…Meanwhile, other researchers found that grapes and blueberries may help to prevent colon cancer. So eat loads of fruit salad this spring and summer! (AFP)

Researchers have discovered a new kind of twin, semi-identical. These twins are somewhere between identical and fraternal twins. (livescience.com)

Tennessee Titan, Pacman Jones could face felony charges stemming from a triple shooting at a Las Vegas strip club in February. Police are seeking a felony charge of coercion as well as misdemeanor charges of threat and battery. Watch out Pacman, because the popo are on your tail! (AP)

Daniel Ratcliff, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson have signed on to reprise their roles in the final two Harry Potter films. (Reuters)

In TV news…The CW has announced that two of its hit shows will be returning a week later than expected. “Gilmore Girls” will begin showing new episodes on April 17th and “One Tree Hill” will air fresh episodes on May 2nd. “Veronica Mars will premiere new shows on May 1st. On ABC, “October Road” will air its final episode of the season April 5th and “Men in Trees will come back on April 12th.

“Punk’d” is ending after 8 seasons. I didn’t even know this was still on. (cnn.com)
