We Can Be Heroes For Just One Day


Baseball: The Dodgers hammered the Brewers, 17-4 but the big news didn't take place until after the game had ended. An upset Prince Fielder, who had been plunked on the hand by a Guillermo Mota pitch, charged the Dodgers clubhouse only to be stopped at the door...K-Rod blew a save allowing the Cardinals to tie it in the ninth and then blew things wide open in the 10th as they stunned the Mets, 12-7. Albert Pujols hit his fifth grand slam of the season in the final inning...Mets second baseman Luis Castillo twisted his ankle after falling down the steps at Citi Field. Yeah, it's been that kind of season for the Mets...Oh and as an added bonus, Jose Reyes is still hurting...Scott Podsednik delivered a walk-off RBI single as the ChiSox edged the Angels, 5-4...Evan Longoria gets a golden sombrero and a walk-off homer in the same game as the Rays slid past the Red Sox, 4-2 in 13 innings...Boston's loss allowed the Yankees to pick up a game in the standings after they beat up the Blue Jays, 5-3...Ian Kennedy cleared another hurdle on Tuesday, throwing off a mini-mound. Kennedy is recovering from surgery to remove an aneurysm...The Padres have released Mark Prior...And also were clobbered by the Braves, 9-2...Jarrod Washburn was forgettable in his first appearance with the Tigers. The O's spanked Detroit, 8-2...Meanwhile Tom Gorzelanny, in his Cubs debut, helped Chicago double up Cincinnati, 6-3...The Rockies bested the Phillies, 8-3 for their fifth straight win...Yusmeiro Petit took a no-hitter into the eighth before Ronny Cedeno broke it up. No problem, the D'Backs still blanked the Pirates, 6-0...Hank Aaron wants the list of names from the 2003 random sampling to be released...Cubs minor leaguer Julio Castillo was convicted of assault after throwing a ball into the stands. He faces up to eight years in jail. Watch out Julio, because the popo are on your tail!

Basketball: The NBA released its schedule for the 2009-10 season, which will kick off with the Cavs vs. the Celtics and the Lakers vs. the Clippers. Christmas Day will feature a Cavs/Lakers match up...Brandon Roy and the Trail Blazers are close to a long term deal...Greek Club Olympiakos is making a run at Allen Iverson. Enjoy Greece Allen, from what I saw in Mamma Mia! and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants it is very beautiful.

Football: Antonio Pierce does not regret what he did on the night Plaxico Burress shot himself. But he is very happy that he will not face any charges...In other Giants news, the team is working on a six year deal that could award Eli Manning up to $100 million and at least $35 million guaranteed. Isn't this a bit premature? I mean he doesn't really have any receivers this year...Especially now that Amani Toomer signed with the Chiefs. Wait a second, aren't you supposed to be retired?...The Packers would not rule out bringing in Michael Vick...The Chargers have fined Antonio Cromartie for tweeting about the "nasty food." Another reason to give up twitter.

Hockey: After 20 years, Sharks forward Jeremy Roenick is expected to announce his retirement...If Jiri Hudler is so inclined, he'll get $5.75 million if he returns to the Red Wings. Hudler already announced his intentions to go to the KHL...Speaking of Detroit, they signed Patrick Eaves to a one year deal...While the Senators locked up Brian Elliott for two years...Chris Zimmerman is resigning from his post as President and CEO of the Canucks citing family reasons...Russia released its roster for camp which includes Alex Ovechkin, Evgeni Malkin and Evgeni Nabokov. The list is filled with NHL and KHL players.
