Trading Spouses: Meet Your New Mommy

Friday marked the non-waiver trade deadline, here’s a run down of the biggest trades:

Victor Martinez to the Boston Red Sox
The Indians traded one of their biggest offensive weapons, catcher/first baseman Victor Martinez to the Red Sox for pitchers Justin Masterson, Nick Hagadone and Bryan Price. Since coming over all Martinez has done for the BoSox is go 6-for-11 with five RBIs.

Adam LaRoche to the Atlanta Braves
Rounding out the trade weekend for the Red Sox, Boston did an even swap of first baseman sending Adam LaRoche to Atlanta for Casey Kotchman. LaRoche began his career with the Braves and offers a little more thump in the Braves lineup.

Nick Johnson to the Marlins
Florida acquired first baseman Nick Johnson from the Nationals for pitcher Aaron Thompson. Johnson has hit .295 with six homeruns and 44 RBIs in 98 games with the Nats this season.

Joe Beimel to the Rockies
The Nationals also sent reliever Joe Beimel to the Rockies for two minor league pitchers Ryan Mattheu and Robinson Fabian. Beimel will add additional support to a bullpen which already features Huston Street and Rafael Betancourt.

Scott Rolen to the Reds
The Reds picked up third baseman Scott Rolen from the Blue Jays for Edwin Encarnacion, Josh Roenicke and Zach Stewart. The Reds also received an unknown cash sum to help off set the cost of Rolen’s $11 million salary.

Jerry Hairston, Jr. to the Yankees
The Reds' other big move sent super-utility player Jerry Hairston, Jr. to the Yankees for catcher Chase Weems. Hairston, Jr. has played every position except for first, pitcher and catcher this season, adding versatility to the Yankees lineup.

Orlando Cabrera to the Twins
The Twins solidified shortstop by adding Orlando Cabrera from the A’s for minor leaguer Tyler Landendorf.

Jarrod Washburn to the Tigers
In need of another solid pitcher, the Tigers acquired Jarrod Washburn from the Mariners for Luke French and Mauricio Robles. Washburn has a 8-6 record with a 2.64 ERA with Seattle this season.

The Tigers had also sent outfielder Josh Anderson to the Royals for cash.

Jake Peavy to the White Sox
In quite possibly the most surprising move, the White Sox acquired Jake Peavy from the Padres for Clayton Richard and minor leaguers Aaron Poreda, Dexter Carter and Adam Russell. The White Sox had made a play for Peavy in May, but Jake had vetoed the deal.

Peavy is still nursing an ankle injury and will not be able to play until late August.

Noteable Non-Trades
Roy Halladay
Despite heavy play on the rumor mill, Halladay will stay with the Blue Jays at least through the end of this season.

Adam Dunn
Dunn offers a hefty bat that could suit many teams’ immediate needs. So far, he remains with the Nationals, but could be on the move before the August 31st waiver deadline.

Doug Davis/Jon Garland
With the Diamondbacks considerably out of the playoff picture, it was assumed that either starting pitcher Doug Davis or Jon Garland could be shipped, but both remain in Arizona for now.
