Baseball: Besides a non-slide by Jorge Posada in the second inning, it was smooth sailing for the Yankees who finally took down the Red Sox, 13-6 in what maybe the longest 9 inning game in history! (For my musings from the game and some photos click here.)...Muhammad Ali was honored by the Yankees during the pregame festivities...David Ortiz will hold a press conference on Saturday...The Red Sox put Kevin Youkilis in left field after placing Rocco Baldelli on the DL...Because it wasn't bad enough for me to watch former Brave John Smoltz get shelled in person, the Braves fall to the Dodgers 5-4 thanks to a three run walk-off homer by Andre Either...Speaking of rallies, the D'Backs posted five runs in the 12th to take out the Pirates, 11-6...Arizona placed Justin Upton on the DL with a right oblique strain...And the Nats cameback from a six run deficit to beat the Marlins, 12-8. It was their fifth straight win. Who are these Nationals that I am writing about? Can't be the ones in DC, right?...The Phillies got another solid start from Cliff Lee as they edged the Rockies, 3-1...The Angels blasted four homeruns to avoid a sweep by the White Sox, 9-5...The Rangers also avoided a sweep by the A's, 6-4...Rookie Rick Porcello earned his 10th victory of the season as the Tigers hammered the Orioles, 7-3...The Padres pounded the Mets, 8-3...And gave manager Bud Black a contract extension...Prince Fielder and Guillermo Mota were both fined but not suspended for their actions on Tuesday...Click here for the Fielder video, which made me wonder why the Dodgers needed to add extra security. I think 10 year old girls trying to get into the Jonas brothers' dressing room would be more dangerous...Cubs minor league pitcher Julio Castillo who was convicted of assault for throwing a ball at a fan will spend 30 days in prison. Watch out Julio, because the popo are on your tail!

Basketball: The Atlanta Hawks and Marvin Williams have agreed in principle to a five year, $37.5 million contract...Magic forward Rashard Lewis has been suspended for 10 games after testing positive for an elevated testosterone level.
Football: The Patriots have acquired DE Derrick Burgess from the Raiders...Falcons WR Harry Douglas will miss the entire season with a knee injury...I think it maybe time for Michael Crabtree to get a new advisor...Donte Stallworth is truly sorry for driving drunk and killing someone. Well thank goodness.

Hockey: Jeremy Roenick held a press conference and announced his official retirement...Meanwhile Sidney Crosby plans to spend his 22nd birthday with the Stanley Cup. (Yes, it's a slow hockey news day.)
Nascar: Sitting seventh in the Chase standings, Kasey Kahne isn't entirely sure he'll be in the Chase field after the next five races. Although his chances are still pretty good.
