Vickers and Red Bull Agree to New Deal
Two days after winning at Michigan, Cup driver Brian Vickers has been rewarded with a contract extension. Vickers and Red Bull Racing had been engaged in talks for months but a final deal could not be reached until now.
“I’m thrilled,” said Vickers, who had expressed frustration during the last month about the delayed contract talks. “This has been a long time coming, and there is nowhere else I would rather be. I am looking forward to building on what we have started the last couple of years.”
Vickers surprised many by announcing his jump from powerhouse Hendrick Motorsports to the upstart Red Bull team for the 2007 season. And while it has been a bumpy ride over the past two years, the 2003 Nationwide (nee Busch) Series champion has gained consistency in 2009 and is currently knocking on the door of his first career Chase appearance.
