the don't drop that it looks expensive edition

Baseball: It's official, John Smoltz is a Red Sox. Don't worry, I took a lot of St. John's wart (thank you Ms. Muster) to try to make it through today without crying every 10 seconds. So far, well, it's not working too well...So now that Smoltzie is gone, what about Tom Glavine?...Avoiding arbitration, the Padres have signed Scott Hairston to a $1.25 million contract...Tigers outfielder Curtis Granderson has accepted an invitation to join the World Baseball Classic, while the Tribe's ace Cliff Lee has not...The Brewers new sponsorship is awesome and you can literally bet on it...The Nationals new ballpark cost about $62 million more then they were expecting. Compared to the New Yankee Stadium, that seems like a bargain...Why is it when I go through my attic all I find are Otis Nixon rookie cards. And when other people go through their attics they find rare baseball cards from 1869?...Finally sad news, former Negro Leagues player Joe Henry has passed away at the agae of 78.

College Football: Congratulations to Florida who defeated Oklahoma, 24-14 to win the BCS National Championship...Florida was also named #1 in the AP Poll followed by Utah and USC...Pittsburgh's LeSean McCoy will enter the draft along with Ohio State's Beanie Wells...Former Miami QB Robert Marve has been granted his right to transfer to either UCF or USF, however LSU and Florida remain on the restricted list.

Football: Bill Romanowski would be perfect for the Broncos head coaching position and he wants everyone to know it...Pacman Jones is going to sue ESPN. I don't know if it is possible to defame his character any more than he already did with his multiple run-ins with the law.

Hockey: Alexander Ovechkin may not be starting in the All-Star game, but he will be playing in it. Click here for the East's All-Star team...And congrats to King Henrik on being selected!...The Celtics could learn a thing or two from their NHL counterparts. After losing two straight, the Bruins got back on track with a 6-4 win over Ottawa. The Celtics on the other hand have lost six of their last eight games...Congrats to Ducks rookie Bobby Ryan who picked up his first career hat trick in Anaheim's 4-3 loss to the Kings...It was not a good night for the NY metro teams as the Devils were shut-out by the Trashers, 4-0...And the Islanders continued thier disastrous ways on the road, falling to the Flames, 5-2...Speaking of embarassing loses, the Stars were pounded by the Wings, 6-1...The Pens have signed Jordan Staal to a $16 million extension.

Best of the Rest: Elliott Sadler will remain with GEM. Wow their leadership is just stellar over there, huh?...In other Gillett Evernham news, they have officially merged with Petty Enterprises...A story that gripped this blog all summer has finally come to a conclusion after UFC fighter Quinton "Rampage" Jackson pleaded guilty to reduced charges to evading a peace officer and driving against traffic. Watch out Rampage, because the popo are on your tail!

Check this out: A few months ago I advised all TV lovers to head over to hulu.com to catch episodes of their favorite NBC/Universal and Fox TV shows. Well now I'm telling everyone to jump ship and move over to fancast.com. It combines all of hulu, plus streams of shows from CBS, ABC, the CW and the WB. Also included is the first episode of season 3 of Kyle XY and the first episode of season 2 of Flight of the Concordes. Click here and let the TV watching begin!
