Nine Inch Nails



Baseball: With Tim Lincecum sidelined due to a back injury, the Giants fell to the Padres, 4-3...The Rockies continued their hot streak, downing the Reds, 3-1...Troy Tulowitzki is day to day with a stiff back injury...After two and half months, the Mets got centerfielder Carlos Beltran back but it wasn't enough as they were doubled up by the Marlins, 4-2...The Mets expect pitcher John Maine to return on Saturday. Too bad these additions didn't come say two months earlier when they had a shot at the NL East...Matt Holliday lifted the Cardinals past the Brewers, 4-3...But it wasn't all bad news for the Brew Crew, they activated Corey Hart off the DL...At some point (tonight perhaps, while I am in the Stadium) Derek Jeter will start hitting. Luckily for the Yankees, his continued 0ffer wasn't a problem with Nick Swisher hitting two homers including the game winner in their 3-2 victory over the Rays...Despite a Red Sox victory, the Rangers closed the Wild Card gap to 1 1/2 games after completing their doubleheader sweep of the Indians, 10-5...The Phillies hit five homeruns as they held off the Nationals, 5-3. Brad Lidge did his best impression of a soon to be out of work closer after retiring just one of the four batters he faced in the ninth...The Cubs started the game with a major league record eight batters reaching base safely before recording an out in their 9-4 drubbing of the Pirates.

Basketball: The Heat remain committed to Michael Beasley...The NBA is prepared to move ahead with replacement refs if their talks with the current refs fizzle.

College Football: Oklahoma may have dodged a bullet with Sam Bradford's injury but they weren't quite as lucky with TE Jermaine Gresham...Speaking of Oklahoma, BYU has jumped up to #9 while the Sooners are down to #13...Flu-like symptoms continue to take their toll on the Ole Miss football team...Also being hit by the flu bug is Wisconsin's football team.

Football: Hey anybody seen Richard Seymour because he still hasn't shown up in Oakland...Minnesota's Kevin Williams and Pat Williams will be eligible to play this weekend at Cleveland regardless of their legal case...So the lawyer for Ben Roethlisberger's accuser says all will be forgiven if he admits he raped her. Doesn't this seem like a last ditch effort?

Hockey: Are the Wild going after Petr Sykora...Jim Balsille will just not give up...Terry Gregson has been named the new head of NHL officials...Jonathan Roy will stand trial on October 7th on charges he assaulted a goaltender during a hockey game last year. Watch out Jonathan, because the popo are on your tail!...Predators owner William Del Biaggio III was sentenced to more than eight years in prison for forging financial documents to obtain loans from banks and two NHL owners so he could purchase controlling interest in the Predators. Watch out Willy, becuase the popo are on your tail!

Nascar: Tony Stewart is ready to get his Prelude to the Dream underway at Eldora Speedway.

Best of the Rest: Andy Murray was stunned while Kim Clijsters rolled at the US Open. ..Apparently a certain hotel in Times Square doesn't care if you're playing well Melanie Oudin, you're reservation is up... Phil Mickelson will play at the BMW Championship this weekend...England has pardoned Michael Shields, a 22 year old soccer fan, convicted of attempted murder in Bulgaria after another man confessed to the crime. Goodness, they take their soccer way too seriously over there...Former Kentucky coach Billy Gillispie has checked in rehab. A DUI charge will do that to a fella...Sad news, Samford basketball player Jim Griffin died from an apparent heart condition. He was just 23.
