Expanded


Baseball: The Braves held off the Marlins, 4-3 in Tim Hudson's first start since undergoing Tommy John surgery...Also returning to the line up was Mets third baseman David Wright who went 1-for-3 with a walk in the Mets 8-3 loss to the Rockies. It was Colorado's first win in six games. Oh and Wright rocked an awesome protective helmet that kind of reminded me of those people who sit in oversized chairs...Cole Hamels two-hit the Giants in Phillies 1-0 victory. San Fran's loss gave the Rockies the thin lead in the NL Wild Card...The Astros activated Aaron Boone just five months after having open-heart surgery...The Red Sox doubled up the Rays, 8-4...Ozzie Guillen says the White Sox are not quitters, but they weren't winners on Tuesday either after falling to the Twins, 4-3...The Rangers picked up a half game on the BoSox after sweeping their doubleheader...Michael Young left the second game early with a strained left hamstring...Matt Holliday hit a three-run go ahead homer in St. Louis' 7-6 win over the Brew Crew...The Cardinals have given contract extensions to closer Ryan Franklin and left-handed specialist Trever Miller...Make a note fans, the Tuesday September 27th game between the Yankees and Boston has been moved back to its original 1 PM starting time. The time change was made to avoid conflict with Yom Kippur.

Basketball: The Celtics have signed Maquis Daniels...Ricky Rubio said a move to the NBA was too risky right now...Speaking of ridiculousness, Jayson Williams wants his conviction overturned. Hold up, why aren't you in jail yet?

Football: Just as soon as Cincinnati signs Andre Smith, the rookie goes down with a fractured foot...Raiders cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha will play in week 1 despite an injured wrist...Broncos rookie QB Tom Brandstater will start their final preseason game on Thursday...The Dolphins have extended Ricky Williams' contract. See there is hope for Pacman Jones after his stint in the CFL...Osi Umenyiora is sorry for his walk-out...Sorry Jess, it looks like Tony Romo has rebounded with Chace Crawford's sister Candice. (She's a sports reported in Dallas) Gee, enough C's Crawford family?...A federal investigation is underway to see if the NFLPA colluded with NFL officials...Mark Richardson and Jon Richardson have resigned from their posts with the Panthers. Both were expected to take over the team from their father Jerry Richardson, owner of the team.


Hockey: Here's your hockey news for today, Jonathan Toews threw out the first pitch at the Cubs game on Tuesday. When is training camp start?...Oh wait, in real news, Sabres forward Adam Mair will miss the start of the regular season after undergoing hip surgery.

Best of the Rest: Florida International will play UNC as scheduled.
