The McRib is Back



Baseball: First off, I'd like to congratulate Derek Jeter on passing Lou Gehrig as Yankee's hit leader on Friday night. And the weather gods for holding off the rain on Wednesday while I was at Yankee Stadium because it sure was coming down in buckets during Friday's game...Congrats also go out to Ichiro who collected 200 hits for the ninth consecutive season in the Mariners 5-0 shut out of the Rangers...The Rangers are now four games out of the AL Wild Card after Boston completed a double header sweep of the Rays, 4-0. The Rays have lost 11 games in a row...The Phillies also completed a sweep with their 1-0 edging of the Mets...John Maine pitched his first game since June in the Mets 5-4 afternoon loss to the Phils...If you're a fan of the 1986 Mets, now is the time to get your very own authentic World Series ring. The ring could fetch as much as $20,000, but that's just ashtray money right Nails?...The Braves hammered the Cardinals all weekend including Sunday's 9-2 win where the Braves drove in six in the third inning off of Chris Carpenter...The Giants avoided a sweep by the Dodgers with a convincing 7-2 victory. The win was Brad Penny's third since joining San Francisco...Tim Lincecum is expected to pitch for the Giants on Monday...The Rockies fell to the Padres, 7-3. Maybe this NL Wild Card race isn't over yet...The Tigers ended their five game lossing streak thanks to a stellar performance from rookie Rick Porcello in their 7-2 win over the Blue Jays...The Pirates snuck by the Astros, 2-1 to end their 13 game road losing streak...Alex Rodriguez and Joe Girardi were both tossed as the Yankees pounded the Orioles 13-3.

Basketball: Karl Malone surprised former teammate John Stockton and coach Jerry Sloan on Staruday by flying in for the Basketball Hall of Fame dinner. Malone's step father is currently on life support, which prevented him from attending Friday's induction ceremony...Sad news, Bobcats owner William "Skipper" Beck died in a plane crash Friday morning. He was just 49.

College Football: Notre Dame dropped out of the top 25 after falling to Michigan on Saturday...USC quarterback Matt Barkley suffered a bruised shoulder in the Trojans 18-15 win over Ohio State...UCLA QB Kevin Prince will be out three to four weeks after fracturing his jaw in the Bruins 19-15 win over Tennessee.


Football: The first Sunday of the regular season was a wild one...The Eagles obliterated the Panthers 38-10 but could have lost Donovan McNabb with a fractured rib...The Broncos stunned the Bengals, 12-7 after Brandon Shockley returned a tipped pass 87-yards for the game winning touchdown...Jay Cutler played a real gem of game, throwing a career high four interceptions in the Bears 21-15 loss to the Packers. How can someone throw four interceptions and yet the other team has to rally for a late drive to win?...In even worse Bears news, Brian Urlacher hurt his wrist and may need to undergo surgery...The Vikings handled the Browns, 34-20...Drew Brees tossed six TD passes as the Saints slaughtered the Lions 45-27. Hockey: The Sabres signed forward Drew Stafford to a two year deal...It's official, Dany Heatley is out of Ottawa...The Flames have invited Theo Fleury to camp...Capitals forward Tomas Fleischmann will miss the start of the regular season with a blood clot in his leg.

Nascar: It was a big night for Denny Hamlin who captured his first Cup victory in his home state of Virginia on Saturday night. (Click here for full results)...The night may have been even bigger for Brian Vickers who raced his way into his first ever Chase, knocking out Matt Kenseth who was in 12th place at the start of the race at Richmond. Click here to see the updated standings...Noticably absent from this year's chase is Kyle Busch. But that won't stop Gibbs Racing from re-signing him.

Best of the Rest: Congrats to Kim Clijsters on completing her comeback with a US Open victory...The win came a day after she bared witness to Serena William's tirade during their semi's match...Congrats also go out to Tiger Woods on his runaway win at the BMW Championship...Famed amputee runner Oscar Pistorius has been charged with assaulting a 19-year-old woman. Pistorius reportedly was trying to break up a fight between the woman and her boyfriend. That maybe why I just laugh when I see a couple fighting instead of trying to break up the situation.
