Is Cal Ripken, Jr. not sacred in Baltimore anymore?

Like all ideas, at one point, they couldn’t have seemed quite so stupid, right? Or at least that’s the only way I can explain why four teenagers chose to steal the “8” statue located outside of Oriole Park at Camden Yards and then leave it in the back of their truck. Gary Parker, Matthew Rayner, Patrick Reynolds and Jason Stonebuner were all captured on a closed-circuit TV camera “pulling and kicking” the “8” statue, removing it from its base, placing it in the back of their truck and driving away.

By thet time the popo responded to a complaint at Lombard Street and Ellwood Avenue an all points bulletin had been placed for the missing relic. As they approached the rowdy revelers they noticed the “8” lodged inside a Dodge truck and quickly apprehended the perpetrators. Good job boys, way to just leave the evidence in plain sight.

The fantastic four were arrested and charged with theft of over $500 and destruction of property.

The “8” statue honoring Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. is one of several aluminum statues located outside of the ballpark. The others honored include Eddie Murray, Earl Weaver, Frank Robinson and Brooks Robinson.

Watch out Gary, Matty, Patty, and Jason, because the popo are on your tail!
