November 9, 2006

Last night I got home kind of late so I took the bus home. At first I was thinking, this isn’t too bad, until we started making stops…constantly. Why can’t people just walk to extra two blocks? No wonder why we’re a nation of obese people. Yikes!

NASCAR Update:
Matt Borland, crew chief of the #12 Dodge for Penske Racing South driven by Ryan Newman, will miss the remainder of the season for personal reasons. Hmm…

Around Sports:
Baseball

Basketball
Coach K is pissed off. The fire Marshall has put his foot down and from now on, students must sit in their seats if they are seated in the first row of the bleachers at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke’s Men’s Basketball Coach, Mike Krzyzewski responded by saying, “Where were (the fire Marshalls) the last 50 years? That would be the first question. I think it begs a different question. It’s like ‘Did we do something wrong?’ And if that’s the case, then how might we be able to solve it without hurting the students? They’re on the team, too. They should be as close to the court as possible.” Seriously, these kids camp out for weeks to get tickets to see their Blue Devils in action. Do fans get harassed like this at football games, or are they just excited to see actual fans at football games? (si.com)

The Dallas Mavericks continue to have a zero in the win column after losing to the Los Angeles Clippers 103-85. The Mavericks are the defending Western Conference Champions. Maybe it’s Mark Cuban’s fault.

Football
The San Francisco 49ers are on the move after they broke off talks with the city of San Francisco for a new stadium. They are looking to move somewhere in the state of California. How about LA? Then everyone can stop whining about not have a NFL team in LA.

After Sunday night’s ratings bonanza that was the Colts/Patriots game, Monday Night Football’s Oakland Raiders/Seattle Seahawks game was the lowest rated MFL game ever. Only 7.587 million people tuned in to see the Seahawks 16-0 win.

Around the World:
Virginia went to the Democrats who will now have the majority in both the House and the Senate. This is the first time they have held majority in 12 years.

Since the 2006 elections are over, Governor Tom Vilsack (D) of Iowa began the first steps in a presidential bid for 2008. Vilsack established a presidential campaign committee. His bid is considered a long shot.

If you’re planning a trip to Barbados, be careful when you go out at night. Giant snails are becoming a major problem, emerging from the dark to destroy crops like bananas, papayas and sugar cane. (AP via yahoo.com)

Looking for a change in scenery? Consider Norway, Iceland, Australia, Ireland, or Sweden, noted as the top countries to live in by the United Nations. The United States came in eighth. Good enough, I’m staying!

FYI…11 million bottles of acetaminophen have been recalled. Perrigo Co.’s 500 milligram capsules were sold at over 100 locations including CVS, Wal-Mart and Safeway (ironic, no?). These contaminated pills contain metal fragments. Check out the FDA website for more information at fda.gov. (yahoo.com)

Congratulations to Brian (dropped the Austin) Green, 33 and girlfriend Megan Fox, 20. The two are engaged. Now when I looked at Megan, I though "How do I know her?" Well after a quick imdb.com search I realized she was Brianna in the Olsen twins straight to video classic Island in the Sun. She also appeared in Lindsay Lohan's Confession of Teenage Drama Queen.
