November 29, 2006

Last Friday, Rachel and I made a package for a soldier we “adopted.” Let’s just say our soldier is going to be really stoked to receive it. Thanks to Karen, we were able to include a bunch of men’s magazines like Men’s Fitness and all the “manly soaps” he could want. We also included soduku, pens/pencils, a disposable camera, some cookies/candies, killer CDs like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Kanye West and a little card to tell him thanks for serving our country. My friend organized the whole thing, but there are thousands of soldiers stationed in Iraq, like ours, and all around the world that would love to receive some goodies from the people back at home. I found a website (anysoldier.com) that has more information on getting involved. If you know of any others just add them to the comments section on the blog.

(Notice creepy old guy in the back of the picture)
Also on Friday I went to my five year high school reunion. Completely creepy to think that five years went by and I hadn’t seen many of these people since graduation day and for some I won’t see them for another five years. I’ll admit I had a blast. It was kind of weird that people didn’t really recognize me. I don’t think I’ve changed that much, except now I look like I’m actually old enough to be in high school, as opposed to before when I looked more like I was in middle school. Oh well.

On Saturday I woke up super sick and all I could think of was that I didn’t drink that much on Friday, but it turns out I had a stomach virus and have spent most of the past four days in my bed on the couch trying to sleep. So that’s why I haven’t updated in a few days. Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving, I know I did.

Braves Update:
Braves star, Dale Murphy will make his ninth appearance on the Hall of Fame Ballot this year. He joins new comers, Cal Ripken, Jr., Tony Gwynn, Mark McGuire, Paul O’Neill, Bret Saberhagen, and Bobby Bonilla.

I've made it no secret my desire to have Tommy back on the team, while I was reading si.com I came across this:
Tom Glavine wants to rejoin the Braves and the Braves want the 40-year-old left-hander back in their starting rotation. But as of late Tuesday, a signing seemed far from imminent -- in fact, there was reason to doubt if it would happen at all. First and foremost, the Braves still had not made an offer to Glavine.-- Atlanta Journal-Constitution
All I want to say is make a damn offer, or you'll lose him again! Goodness.

NASCAR Update:
Ricky Carmichael, who signed with Ginn Racing earlier this year, was testing a late model car owned by Mark Martin at New Smyrna Speedway this week. Martin announced he will be racing part time for Ginn Racing in the Nextel Cup Series next year.

According to autosport.com via jayski.com, Robby Gordon is not opposed to doing the double in 2007. Gordon skipped out of the Indy 500 in 2006 opting to just race the Coca-Cola 600 over Memorial Day weekend.

Jimmie Johnson was named the driver of the year by the Sporting News after winning almost everything in the Nextel Cup Series. Johnson won the Championship, Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 in 2006.

Baseball
David Dellucci and his 2 groupies are moving to Cleveland after the former Phillies outfielder signed a three year, $11.5 million contract with the Indians.

Alfonso Soriano’s 8 year, $136 million contract with the Chicago Cubs was just ok until I heard he’ll also be receiving a guaranteed suite for his road games and six premium tickets for his spring training/regular season/post season and all-star games. Now that’s my kind of contract!

Basketball
Make it six in a row for my New Jersey Nets after they lost to the Charlotte Bobcats, 96-92 on Tuesday.

Football
The Oakland Raiders replaced their offensive coordinator, Tom Walsh with Tight End Coach, John Snoop.

Around the World:
Senator Bill Frist (R-TN) who decided not run for reelection after being involved in an insider trading scandal this year announced he will not be running for president in 2008. The current Senate Majority Leader released a statement saying, “In the Bible, God tells us for everything there is a season, and for me, for now, this season of being an elected official has come to a close. I do not intend to run for president in 2008.” Thank God! (cnn.com)

Random Quote:''There was another seismic shift in our nation's leadership. Of course, I'm talking about People magazine's Sexiest Man. Last year's winner, rugged good ol' boy Matthew McConaughey, is out. Leftist pretty boy George Clooney is in....Nation, we are at war. You don't change sexy horses in midstream, no matter how good that other sexy horse looks bathing under a waterfall.'' - Stephen Colbert, on the Colbert Report (via ew.com)

It’s been fun blogging with you,
