November 3, 2006

This morning I was at Starbucks, surprise, surprise, and the woman in front of me ordered two of everything in the display case and was upset that the barristas were slow in getting her order. PS, Starbucks is not a bakery. Hey lady, if you want twelve donuts go to Dunkin’ Donuts! It totally screwed up the whole line because three people were trying to get everything she wanted.

*SPOILERS*

Anyway last night was such a great TV night. The Office celebrated Diwali with Kelly and her family. I loved when Ryan was sitting with Kelly’s parents, (Kelly’s real life parents) and they were asking about his intentions. Ryan said that he moved up from temp to sales and they said that he could save money for a family. Ryan said that actually he was saving up to travel and buy and an Xbox. Classic! Over in Stamford, Andy, Jim and Karen were doing shots. Well, actually just Andy and Jim. Jim asked Andy for a ride home and Andy said that he kept an air mattress for days like this and offered Jim a spot on the roomy twin mattress. Jim opted out and tried to drunken bike home and fell off his bike. Karen saw him, and gave him a ride home. I’m sorry, but I’m actually liking Karen and Jim (Kim) and Roy and Pam (Ram). When Roy came to the gym and saw Pam having fun, he genuinely looked disappointed. He just didn’t realize what he had, but if he started to appreciate her like Jim did, they’ll be alright.

Then onto the OC…Can I just say, the OC is back and more amazing than ever. Maybe it’s because Marissa’s dead. Just a thought. Where to begin…getting caught up in how dreamy Ryan looked…moving past that…onto actual storyline. We begin five months after Marissa’s death. So Summer went to Brown and has teamed up with Che, totally that environmental, protest for anything, tree hugger kind of guy. They seem to be just friends, no threat to Seth. Seth is still in Newport, hanging out with Sandy, Kirsten and Dr. Roberts? Julie has been unable to cope with Marissa’s death and is splitting her time being comatose and being Martha Stewart on pills. Ryan is a cage fighter…thinking about how dreamy he was…moving on…Taylor, while she is supposed to be in France, is actually in Newport. Summer comes home to help rescue Ryan after Seth leaves her another detailed message. Is it me or does every season opener begin with trying to rescue Ryan? He’s a punk who Sandy brings home to Newport (season 1). He’s a construction worker in Chino (Season 2). Can’t remember season 3, and this season he works at a bar and cage fights for fun. It was definitely darker tone, but it was back to being must see TV. My two favorite scenes were the comic book story of the Cohens and when Summer goes home and looks across the room and sees the ghost of Marissa and has to leave home. Summer, doesn’t always get to show her acting chops, but in that scene she really pulled through. Next week, looks awesome, and I’ve read that it only gets better. Why does Thursday have to be filled with some much good stuff, The Office, The OC, Grey’s, and Ugly Betty? It’s just too much!

NASCAR Update:
Only three races left to go in the season and the points are super tight. Matt Kenseth currently leads but is only 26 points in front of Jimmie Johnson and 84 points in front of Jeff Burton and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. This week, expect high speeds and multiple grooves at Texas. Dale Jr. won his first Busch Series and Cup Series races at this track. It also has been host to 11 different winners in 11 races including Chasers Kasey Kahne, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and Jeff Burton.

Qualifying for the Dickies 500: Friday @ 4:30 PM/est on Speed
Dickies 500: Sunday @ 2:30 PM/est on NBC

NASCAR Notes: Terry Labonte will make his final Cup start on Sunday at Texas Motor Speedway, his home track. Labonte is a two time Cup Series Champion and has 22 wins including the final Southern 500 run at Darlington on Labor Day weekend…#96 car for Hall of Fame racing will have a Dallas Cowboys paint scheme at Texas on Sunday. Owners Troy Aikman and Roger Staubach played for the Cowboys…Congratulations go out to Dale Earnhardt, Jr. According to benmailer.com, Junior and co picked up third place at Pure Night Club’s costume party. The group dressed up as the cast of Reservoir Dogs. I’m just amazed that A) He’s seen the movie and B) He liked it enough to dress up as the cast. Here’s hoping he was Mr. Blonde (Michael Madsen).

Giants Update:
This weekend the Giants take on the 2-5 Houston Texans. The Giants are going for their fifth win but should be careful not to overlook the Texans. Even though the Texans lost to the Titans last week, they will be looking to take advantage of any little Giants error. They are fully aware that the Giants players might be looking more towards next Sunday’s game against the currently undefeated Chicago Bears instead of the Texans.

New York Giants v. Houston Texans: 1 PM/est on Fox

The MLB All-Stars won their first game against the Japanese team, 3-2, off a Jermaine Dye two run homer. John Lackey pitched 5 quality innings in the win. The MLB All-Stars will play again on Saturday with Bronson “most amazing hair in baseball” Arroyo on the mound.

Minnesota Twins starter, Francisco Liriano will undergo tommy john surgery on Monday in California. Liriano is expected to miss all of next season.

Football
In a battle of the undefeated Big East teams on Thursday, #5 Louisville came out on top, beating #3 West Virginia 44-34.

Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s quarterback, Chris Simms maybe placed on IR. Simms had his spleen removed after September 24th’s game against the Carolina Panthers. Doctors have told Simms he will be unable to play until late December. Meanwhile, back up QB, Luke McGown, has begun practicing after being on the physically unable to perform list. The Bucs are expected to make a decision by Tuesday.

Terrell Owens maybe be suffering from a sleep disorder, or at least that's his excuse for falling asleep during team meetings. T.O. I believe the official medical term is called boredom.

Popo in my crib News:
Trevor Graham has been indicted with three counts of making false statements to federal agents. Graham, a track coach for Justin Gatlin, Marion Jones, and Tim Montgomery had helped begin the steroids probe after sending doping agents a vial of steroids. Watch out Trevor, because the popo are on your tail!

John-Blair Bickerstaff, assistant coach for the Charlotte Bobcats, plead guilty to driving while impaired. Bickerstaff was sentenced to 24 hours of community service (what a penalty) and had his license revoked for a year, except he will be able to drive to work. Huh? Watch out John, because the popo are on your tail!

Sanjay Kumar, a former co-owner of the New York Islanders, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for fraud and was given an $8 million fine. Kumar was involved in a $400 million software fraud scandal. Watch out Sanjay, because the popo are on your tail!

Around the World:
Who knew heaven was located on the coast of the Jersey Shore? About 300 letters written to God were found, mostly unopened in the waters off the Jersey Coast. Originally given to Rev. Grady Cooper, who died more than two years ago, it is a mystery as to why or how they ended up there.

In wait until your reign is over news…Danielle Lloyd (aka Miss Great Britain) was stripped of her title after telling Eve Magazine that she was dating one of the judges. Lloyd originally claimed that she had begun dating English Premiership footballer, Teddy Sheringham, one of the judges, on the night of the competition, but admitted to the Magazine that they had actually begun dating two months prior. I don’t get it…1) isn’t it still illegal to begin dating the judges before the competition is over? 2) Apparently, there wasn’t a mental component to this competition, like an interview portion or a history quiz; otherwise, I’m scared to think of what the other contestants were like. Celebrity Tid Bits:
Look out for Carrie Underwood at the CMA’s on Monday. She’ll be wearing a dress reportedly worth $850,000 that is made out of diamonds. If you really, really, really like this dress, you’ll be able to bid on it with part of the proceeds going to the Humane Society and Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Kenny Rogers will be going on tour beginning November 24th in South Bend, IN and running through to December 20th in Watertown, NY. This is Kenny’s 25th Christmas tour.

Mark your calendars, Sugarland will be performing live on Good Morning America from Nashville on Monday.

According to countrynation.com via gactv.com, Randy Owen and Blake Shelton will join Anastasia Brown as judges on the fifth season of Nashville Star which airs on USA Network. Jewel and Cowboy Troy will serve as hosts when it premiers on January 11th.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Gemma Ward (19), Dennis Miller (53), Kate Capshaw (53), Rosanne (54) who was very funny on My Name is Earl last night and Anna Wintour (57).

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
