November 15, 2006

Sorry for not posting yesterday, but I had to bring my mom to a doctor’s appointment; nothing serious, but I had to be Nurse Betty yesterday and I didn’t have time to post.

On to today! Did any of you catch Gilmore Girls last night?

*SPOILERS*
I cannot believe Lorelei and Christopher got married in Paris. This show is getting so lame. Although, I know I will continue to watch. I’m annoyed with Rory. I love Alexis Bledel, but the girl cannot do crying scenes. Remember when she cried to Dean in Season 4 about having to drop a class. It was just about as painful as last night…and Lane having twins…really? Although I loved Mrs. Kim’s reaction by first saying they had to move into the Kim house. When Lane stood up for herself, Mrs. Kim moved in with them. Oh and Brian eating dinner with the Korean family was priceless. It’s those moments that keep me coming back. I can’t wait until next week when Luke beats the living crap out of Christopher.

How good was Friday Night Lights? I’m becoming more obsessed with every viewing. I almost want to move to west Texas…almost!

NASCAR Update:
According to DEI VP Richie Gilmore, DEI is not interested in purchasing a piece of Robert Yates Racing even though technical director, Steve Hmiel confirmed the rumor over the weekend. You guys really need to communicate!

Travis Kvapil will return to the Craftsman Truck Series in 2007 driving the #6 Ford Truck for Roush Racing. Kvapil, a former Truck Series Champion, is currently driving the #32 Tide ride for PPI.

Giants Update:
Tiki Barber who injured his thumb during Sunday’s game against the Bears says he’ll be good to go for Monday’s Carolina Panthers game…Not so ok, Luke Petitgout who injured his fibula, although he’s listed as day-to-day. I think that’s more of wishful thinking.

Around Sports:
Baseball
Congratulations to Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks for picking up the 2006 National League CY Young Award. He beat out Trevor Hoffman of the San Diego Padres and Chris Carpenter of the World Champion, St. Louis Cardinals.

Former Brave and New Jersey native, Mark DeRosa signed a 3 year contract worth $19 million with the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday. DeRosa had been playing for the Texas Rangers.

Football
Old man Vinnie Testaverde is coming out of retirement…again…to be the Patriots number three quarterback. Why?

After missing Penn State’s Saturday game to recover from surgery to repair a broken shinbone and two torn ligaments in his knee suffered during a November 4th game, defensive coordinator, Tom Bradley said that PapaJo (Joe Paterno) will be back on the sidelines for Penn State’s game on Saturday. The November 11th game was the first game Paterno missed since 1977. (foxsports.com)

Hockey
In don’t call it a comeback news…The New York Rangers were able to score 3 goals in 90 seconds on their way to a 3-2 win over their cross river rivals, the New Jersey Devils. The Devils had been leading by 2-0 going into the 3rd period before choking. I remember a similar choking performance in the same building a few years ago except it was the Knicks losing to the Pacers…

Random Quote: “I said nothing publicly about it nor do I intend to and that is the attention that it deserves. Now does anybody else have a question about basketball? This is a press conference for a basketball game.” –Coach Bobby Knight refusing to talk about the slap seen round the world (foxsports.com)

Around the World:

Both Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani have taken the first step in running for president by establishing an exploratory committee. McCain/Giuliani in ’08!

Senator Trent Lott (R-MS) was elected the Republican Party’s number two in the Senate as Senate Minority Whip. This comes four years after Lott was forced to step down as Majority Leader. (cnn.com)

In other Katrina disaster news…hundreds of FEMA trailers were destroyed beyond repair in storage because the trailers were unprotected from the elements. So let’s see…you make it nearly impossible for people in the region to rebuild, you buy trailers that are deemed unusable because they are not supposed to be used in flood prone areas, like New Orleans and then instead of sending the trailers to areas where they could be used, you let them rot in storage. Thank you for once again wasting millions of dollars and neglecting the people you’re supposed to protect. Oh but please, continue to focus on gay marriage bans, because that’s what’s really important!

When spreading the holiday cheer this year by giving gifts to Toys for Tots, remember to leave the Jesus dolls at home.

Popo in mycrib News:

A pee wee football coach in Texas may face charges for attacking an 18 year old referee during a football game involving 5 and 6 year olds. The coach was told by the ref to stop cursing on the field. The attack and ensuing rumble was caught on tape. Watch out coach, because the popo are on your tail!

Jack Abramoff went to jail on Wednesday. The former lobbyist was convicted of “using expensive gifts, campaign donations and exotic trips to win access to the powerful in Washington.” Watch out Jack, because the popo are on your tail! (cnn.com)

Celebrity Tid Bits:
It’s official, George Clooney is the Sexiest Man Alive for 2006 according to People Magazine. I’ve got to say, I agree with that choice!

Congratulations to Donald Trump, Jr. and his wife Vanessa are expecting their first child next year. This will be Donald, Sr.’s first grandchild. (people.com)

TV ALERT: Dancing with the Stars season finale which will reveal if Mario Lopez or EMMIT SMITH won will air tonight at 8 PM/est on ABC.

According to Ask Ausiello, Friday Night Lights will be moving to Sundays at 8 PM beginning in January. So perfect no more Gilmore conflict. Also the OC will remain on Thursdays at 9 PM/est on Fox. BOO!

A new CD featuring songs about fishing by various artists like Brad Paisley and George Jones will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart and Bass Pro Shops. Add that to my Christmas list…

Mark your calendars, the 42nd annual Academy of Country Music Awards will be held on May 15, 2007 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Happy Birthday shout outs to Sam Waterson who turns 66 today!

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
