November 16, 2006

Today, I got on a train from Secaucus to Penn Station and the power was out, meaning no lights. It was totally creepy, especially when we went into the tunnel. I guess nothing beats Monday when I got rained on…in the train car. There was water all over the seat across the aisle, so I figured I’d be fine in my seat, but all of a sudden a huge waterfall fell on me. I have to admit the only thing I cared about was my ipod, which got hit the hardest. But it’s still working. You’ve got to love NJ transit and the way they give the Bergen line the crappiest trains ever, while the trains that go into Manhattan are the more recent ones.

Today I begin annoying gum chewing rating: 7

1-Least annoying
10-Ipod head phones in both ears and the volume all the way up

Currently, just one head phone in and volume at three quarters up!

NASCAR Update:
Mark Martin was voted the Greatest Driver in Busch Series history. He beat Sam Ard, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Jack Ingram and Dale Earnhardt, Sr.

It’s not just Championship Weekend at Homestead, it will mark a few firsts like, Juan Pablo Montoya’s first Nextel Cup race, the first time Budweiser will be on the hood of Dale Earnhardt, Jr.’s Busch car, and the first time Joe Nemechek attempts the triple, racing in the Truck Series, Busch Series and Nextel Cup Series.

Giants Update:
Justin Tuck will undergo season ending surgery on his foot.

Around Sports:
Baseball
Congratulations to Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers and former manager of the Florida Marlins, Joe Girardi for picking up the AL and NL Manager of the Year award.

Baseball GMs are mulling over the idea of bringing in instant reply. Currently, Commissioner Bud Selig is not too fond of the idea.

The Yankees declined pitcher Mike Mussina’s $17 million option but are close to signing him to a two year, $23 million contract.

Old news, but it still boggles my mind…the Red Sox spent $51.1 million to negotiate a deal with Japanese Pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka. That’s just a tad ridiculous!

Basketball
Oral Roberts University stunned #3 Kansas with a 78-71 win over the Jayhawks at Kansas.

Hockey
Hockey fans will soon be able to watch clips of games on YouTube.com. That should really increase the viewership!

Olympics
All of you Olympic athletes heading to China in 2008 will not have to worry about being poisoned. China plans on using mice to test all of the food. Hopefully, the mice will not accidentally become the food.

Random Quote: "I hope he doesn't play at all, but if something happens, at least we have ourselves protected there." – New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick on Vinnie Testaverde

Around the World:
Due to unseasonably warm weather, bears are wandering around southwestern Siberia. The bears are said to have a case of insomnia. Normally, they go into hibernation in October/November for six months. (Reuters via yahoo.com)

Popo in my crib News:
Former Washington Nationals scout, Frank Falzarano was arrested in connection with an illegal gambling ring. The ring had earnings of over $1 billion. Falzarano was held on $500,000 bond. Watch out Frank, because the popo are on your tail!

In on no news…a 23 year old man in Wichita, KS shot himself in the groin during a botched kidnapping. The man stuck the gun into the waist of his paints when the gun went off. The man was able to walk to the hospital to receive treatment where he was arrested. His 20 and 18 year old accomplices were also arrested. Watch out moron because the popo are on your tail!

Celebrity Tid Bits:
Congratulations to EMMITT SMITH, who won season 3 of Dancing with the Stars. This is Emmitt’s partner, Cheryl’s second win. She won season 2 with Drew Lachey.

Congratulations to Jamie Pressly and her fiancé Eric Cubiche. The pair is expecting their first child.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise are getting married this weekend, in case you haven’t heard. A few people were missing from the guest list including Oprah and Katie’s co-star Joshua Jackson. I kind of doubt that Katie’s former fiancĂ©e, Chris Klein is invited. I miss the Katie of old. I still watch my Dawson Creek DVDs and think, Joey Potter, what went wrong? I also watch those DVDs and think, Jen, I never thought you’d end up as the Oscar Nominee, but Congrats on that oh, and Heath Ledger!

TV ALERT: Pam and Jim are reunited in Scranton in a 40 minute, super-sized The Office at 8:36 PM/est on NBC.

TV ALERT: The OC is on tonight at 9 PM/est on FOX. If you’ve been reading about the season, this is supposed to be a great episode, so tape Grey’s and watch the OC!

Keith Urban’s Love, Pain and the whole crazy thing debuted at number one on the Billboard country albums chart and number 3 on the top 200 all genre chart after selling 270,000 copies. Sugarland’s Enjoy the Ride debuted a spot behind Urban’s on both charts after selling 211,000 copies.

Happy Birthday shout outs to Maggie Gyllenhaal (29), Missie Pyle (34) and Marg Helgenberger (48).

It’s been fun blogging with you,

Kate
